I don't do the whole New Year Resolution thing, but I WOULD like to read more books this year. I get a lot of "serious" reading done for school (all philosophy/theology) so I am mostly looking for something related to hunting and outdoors.

This past year I read almost all of Steven Rinnellas books and a couple books by Christ Eberhart (which weirdly were mostly huge ads for Tree Saddles and ScentLok). What you guys got?

It's been posted on here before but I'll say it again.

Death in the Long Grass and Death on the Dark Continent were decent reads. Both about a PH from Africa.

Fearless, Green Hills of Africa, and Lonesome Dove are all good.

If you want to read other type material, I would suggest anything by Michael Crichton (probably spelled wrong) or anything by John Grisham.

Malcolm Gladwell books are good. Carl Sagan books are good too. The millionaire next door is good. I know you said you read philosophy type stuff already but Joseph Campbell is good. Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 are good dystopian fiction, which I kinda like every once in a while. Social Physics by Alex Pentland. Thomas Sowell books are interesting from what I've heard but I've only listened to his interviews. Dirty Wars is investigative journalism about the Middle East conflicts. How to win friends and influence people is ok. I read the art of war but thought it kinda sucked honestly. I've got a long list I add to, but it's mostly non-fiction.

Any Peter Capstick books. I read Death in the Long Grass when i was 15 and when i started i couldnt pit it down. I've read 7 or 8 of his books. Another good one is The Last Ivory Hunter. The best hunting book ever may be Where the Red Fern Grows!

If you like history:

"Catherine the Great," by Robert K. Massie
"Peter the Great," by Robert K. Massie -- I liked this one more of these two, because it provides more depth to his building of St. Petersburg, the Russian Navy and his battle failures/successes

"The Great Divide," by Thomas Flemming (about Washington and Jefferson, and the early days of our country)

"Ghengis Khan and the Making of the Modern World," by Jack Weatherford (doggone fascinating)

As for an outdoorsy book, I recommend Capstick's "Death in in the Tall Grass" if you have any interest in African big game hunting. Pretty riveting.

In the process of reading one of Aldeer's own books. At First Light was written by treemydog. A very interesting book that is well written IMHO. Great plot and story line. Sorry I waited this long to read it. Great read and definitely worth the time.

Not going to make you smarter by any stretch but the Dummy Line series by Bobby Cole is incredibly intriguing and set right here in Alabama. Hunting, mystery, murder...it has it all. I have the series if you'd like to borrow the books.

I haven't read them but I've heard really good things about Bobby's "Dummy Line" series, too.

Stephen Hunter always gets the gun stuff right. He was a movie critic before writing so his books "read" like movies.

Jeff Cooper or Massad Ayoob for shooting stuff.
Craig Boddington for hunting stuff.

Only hits count.

John Grisham is a far left-wing, gun hating, whacko liberal. No thanks.
