Well, I figured it would eventually happen. I caught my Great Pyrenees last night. I set a trap on my property where I had a video of a coyote not long ago. I put my game camera on video mode and hoped to see a coyote get trapped. Instead, I have video footage of my dog getting trapped and 10 hours later a coyote coming up there looking at my dog in the trap.

So, how is your dog doing? Did the trap mess up his foot/leg?

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

She limped up to the barn on 3 feet and laid down like her feelings were hurt. Wouldn't pay much attention to food. I felt and flexed her foot and toes to see if anything was structurally wrong and couldn't feel anything and she didn't act like it was extremely tender. She did whimper a little when I was moving one toe. When I got home from work she was on the front porch and came walking around the house like nothing was wrong.

I can post photos on here but don't know how to post videos. The coyote looks young to me based on the size of its ears compared to its head.

Yesterday this thread sent me to YouTube to look up dogs vs coyotes, and I found several videos by one guy or group of guys in the midwest that hunt coyotes using Greyhound dogs. Anyone seen this before? I found it fascinating to watch.

My dad used to hunt coyotes with July hounds, they would track, chase, catch and kill one after the other

First time I ever heard of it was when I was in Nebraska pheasant hunting about 20 years ago. We came up on some folks who had a coyote laid up on a dog box. When we asked them about it they said they let the greyhounds run the coyotes down. Never got to see how it was done until that video.

I caught three fingers in a MB550 once. Mine have the offset jaws. It didn't break anything but it hurt bad enough that it wouldn't have hurt any more if it had.

Glad your pup is doing fine. And those greyhounds catching coyotes is pretty cool. Wonder how fast they run?

I caught my neighbors dog in a MB550 a few weeks ago. I walked up to him and he looked like he knew that he really screwed up. I pulled his foot free and he ran about 20yds in front of me and held his foot up, wanting me to see what happened. I checked it out then he started playing around so I knew he was alright.

I caught both of my thumbs in steel trap while trying to set it. I had already staked it down so I was hung up until I could mash the springs on the trap down with my feet. Lesson learned. I think I was about fifteen at the time. I'm 48 now and I still don't stake a trap down until after I set it.

Caught a neighbors big male lab yesterday. He sat patiently while I eased it off of his foot. Then he hung around and wanted to hang out. Limped for maybe 30 seconds.

From past experience there are 2 types of dogs you catch in a foothold trap.

There are the ones that are wagging their tails when you walk up and then there is that other kind. STRONGLY suggest using a control pole for the other kind.

Seriously thinking about throwing a section of plywood with a notch in the bottom on the truck for those situations.

The plywood is a good idea. It's tough to hold the catch pole and release the trap and keep them from nipping or scratching you too. Most are easy to handle and just lay there, some even lay there until you walk or ride off, but there have been a few that need a little extra catch pole persuasion before they calm down enough to release.

thumbup I thought it was one of the most fascinating things I've ever watched concerning hunting methods for any type of game or predator.
