Technology today and oversight isn't going to allow dangerous "poisen" to be used. Good. I'm all for killing the hogs, but just want to make sure an unsuspecting hunter won't get hurt. Lots of locals around where I hunt also take free hogs from hunters who don't want them.

I dont think there is a lot of risk with the sodium nitrite moving through the food chain. Temik on the other hand is bad news. Both have been discussed in this thread, but only one is a significant threat.
"Cull" is just another four letter word...

Yea man keep trying. All those were banned from use by mid 80's. So what's your point here?

I dont think its conspiracy, i think they just want shed of pigs. I been readin about this stuff now for a little while and educating myself about sodium nitrite. Theyve been usin this stuff in austrailia for awhile now and 1080 and warfarin were the predecessors of sodium nitrite. It all came down to the most efficient and humane which is sodium nitrite. Warfarin could take up to a few days to a week or more for the animal to succumb. 1080 or sodium flouracetate took from 6-8 hours and now the new toxin takes 1-3 hour with an average kill time for a 70lb pig being 59min. Its the most efficient method, and thats why its being done. This may be as good an opportunity to take back our ag lands and broad scale wildlife habitat that gets decimated every year by feral pigs. Now if we could just figure somethin out for coyotes.

Exactly. If you've ever lost a field, a crop, or anything else damaged you'd be for this program. This isn't 1930. Technology today and oversight isn't going to allow dangerous "poisen" to be used. People thought that in the roaring 30's too. I don't trust the theory

Read the labels on a lot of the processed meats. Many contain Sodium Nitrite and Sodium Nitrate. I know not at the levels used for swine poison. So I wonder if a poisoned processed hog would contain the same levels of Sodium Nitrite in its meat as would meat found in the stores?
