I have a field that is about 2 acres. Just regular grass/brush. Considering cutting it, spraying, burning, disc-ing, and then replanting. Want to go with clover. Not to hunt over, just to have. My wife has bees. Just another food source for deer and her bees in spring and summer. Want to plant it and forget it. It will be a 12 mo a year type thing. What type of clover?

A good mix of white and red.

Durana, Patriot, Medium Red, and a light dusting of Crimson

Thanks, was reading about Durana. Seemed perfect. When to plant?

Honestly if it were me and wanted to increase chances of good success, wait until next fall.

I've planted hundreds of acres of clover throughout the southeast and planting in the spring is a crap shoot. Dry summer and it's done. If we have a summer like this past one, you're good but I wouldn't bet my money on it.

If you really want to improve your success, plant a spring cover crop of peas and cut the green vegetation back into the soil about a month prior to planting your clover. It takes more time in the tractor seat but you'll have a good clover crop when you're done.

Yes absolutely better in Alabama to plant clover in the fall. Gives it a lot longer time to grow roots before the hot dry summer time.

If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.

Kudzu. Makes purple honey. I think but some folks think it's nice. I like a crimson clover field the best.

It be's that way sometimes.
