I caught a deal on a buck decoy @ gander during their closing (8 dollars if my memory serves me right) I'm thinking about trying it out this afternoon/weekend to try and convince one to come out in the daylight. I haven't heard many good things about using them in the south. Just curious if y'all have ant experience/tips

Thing looks mean my deer would run like hell. Better put an orange scarf on that thing. They some trigger happy folks out there.

I would not use those antlers and would use something like a forkhorn or smaller size, perhaps maybe one side only.

Anything can happen, for sure. But a mature buck might see this 'mature' decoy and decide to not engage. It may come in spoiling for a fight. A smaller buck decoy - similar to a jake with a mature gobbler near a hen - may be better, though.

If a single isolated gobble call from a hunter in the turkey woods is enough to make some people tremble with fear for their safety that another hunter may stalk them as a gobbler and shoot them (the hunter), I can't imagine the risk involved with bringing a trophy buck into the woods, with rednecks outfitted with high power scopes on every 40 acres, confident in their ability to make 600 yard shots on a dime. gun

I toted a decoy (with the antlers off, and put in my pack) upside down across a field in SE Kansas a couple of years ago. Even during bow season and with orange and carrying it upside down, it still gave me the willies.

I have used a doe decoy about like yours several times. Does ignored it but I had a spike snort at it for 45 minutes before I finally chased him off. Thought of taking the legs off and set it like it's laying down but the ears are perked up like she is on alert. Don't like that. Swore I was going to use it in Illinois last year but didn't try it.
