WTB……I’m looking for a Rossi model 92 lever action .44 mag with a 16 inch barrel. Anyone have such and want to part with it? If not, does anyone have any suggestions on a good place to buy one around Auburn/Montgomery area.
I'd also consider one of the old Ruger .44 carbines if anyone has one of those they want to sell.

cant say for sure they have one but larry's pistol an pawn in madison and huntsville would be first place i looked I’ll check them out if I can’t find it locally. Thanks! Look on armslist. There are 2 44 rifles. A Rossi like you want and a ruger 77/44 I appreciate it. I checked it out but the one on there is the 20” barrel. I’m specifically looking for the shorter one because this is gonna be my tracking gun. I need it as compact as possible.

If it’s not badly cheap made or something then I think the Rossi with the 16” barrel may end up actually being my best option. It looks to be shorter and lighter than any of the other .44’s.

Seems the mare's leg would be as short and compact as possible.... Yeah it is compact and I’ve studied on using one…..but I just don’t know about the awkward way you gotta shoot those things. I think I can be a lot more efficient with the little .44 rifle in my link.

The mares leg does look cool in the leg holster set up. Check out www.stevesgunz.com he’s the guy on slicking the Rossi’s up. They are very tight and can be finicky until they’ve been cycle a gazillion times or you buy his CD and follow his instructions. I have the 357 octogon barrelled 92 pretty fun lever gun. Want a 16 or 20” .44 also but want money more at moment.

Guess you are set on the 44 but one of those Ruger American's in 450 Bushmaster are short light and cheap. I'll have to check that out. I hadn't seen those yet.

Not sure if your dead set on a 44 mag or not but you can find the marlin 336y or spikehorn models pretty easy. It is a 30-30 with 16.5" barrel. Pretty dang compact and can reach out further than 44. Some good iron sights or a red dot and you have a really good tracking rig. Or get a marlin 1894 in 44mag then get barrel chopped to 16". The Rossi's I have handled were rough and felt kind of cheap.

No, I'm not dead set on the .44......I'll definitely go with a compact 30-30. I think that's the one Academy said they had in stock. I'm gonna have to go look at it and see how it feels. I was afraid the Rossi was gonna be too cheap. I'm not needing anything fancy but I need it to be functional.

To give you an idea on size, here is my 336y next to a 16" AR with buttstock all the way collapsed. If it were me I would go 30-30. Sorry to hijack your thread.
