I agree with Franklin being top self, but I just don't think Kirby has had enough body of work yet for an accurate assessment.

I think auburn didn't have a choice. Although gus is inconsistent, he did beat bama and go to the sec championship. Who else, with the lack of good available coaches, was auburn going to hire?

But is 8-4 with Gus for $7.1M

Better than 8-4 with anyone on the list for $3.1M?

Has Gus ever went 8-4 while being paid $7.1m?

Great point.

The salary increase should really help his record

The ASU athletic director, Ray Anderson, is a former sports agent who had Edwards as a client.

It's not like there was any brilliant stoke of genius to contact Edwards. This was some kind of buddy deal. Anderson announced Sunday evening an NFL-style management program for the athletic department which already has been poo-poohed. The last time Edwards coached in college was decades ago and as an assistant.

ASU hasn't had decent success since they fired Bruce Snyder, who was a good coach and did about as well as he could for a university in a large metro area. If Edwards (and Anderson, as AD) do anything meaningful IMO it'll be a surprise to a lot of folks out there.

But coaches a team for the UnderArmor all American game every year. Players (the good ones) know who he is.

Will be interesting to see how he does.

I think he’s more connected to college football than the Tennessee John Gruden fantasy

Saban is making $11,125,000 this year

With potential for $700,000 bonus on top of that

An update on the Herm Edwards hire:

AD says he knows it'll be strange to some, and then has Edwards' agent speak to the media at the press conference.

That's not strange. That's stupid.
