The day before I get there, or the day after I leave. It never fails, if I go to the flyway I get a call saying, "Man, that front moved through after you left and the ducks were everywhere!"

The frustration is also part of the allure of the game. Ducks can be in Canada this morning and Mexico the next. They are not tied to any particular piece of property and migrate on a whim. Truly great duck hunting requires a weather change and often a change in water levels. My spectacular hunts have always involved migrating birds or a freshly flooded area.

Hunting 20+ days a season will result in 2 to 3 really good days, 10-15 mediocre days and 5-10 that suck. Once every other year there will be a day that you can do jumping jacks in the decoys wearing blaze orange coveralls and still kill limits of mallards and pintails.

I go when I can and hope for the best!

I agree with your sentiments. I always say, if I can get 20 days in I'm gonna have 5 or 6 incredible days, a few horrible days and the rest in between.

I can't usually pick up and leave, I've gotta plan my days out long in front of season, I could probably increase the number of incredible days if I had flexibility to go when the weather turns.
