Could someone tell me if this is correct? Do you have to pick up an additional permit, other than the purchased one the day before you hunt? I've heard the rut should be in there right now.

The next hunt is Nov 24, 25 and 26, in Zone B. I don't see a hunt for the 30th. As long as you have your WMA license, all you need is a current map, which also serves as your daily permit. Must have it signed and on you at all times while hunting. Some WMAs require a daily permit which you pick up the morning of the hunt. But at Choccolocco all you need is the map/permit for all deer hunts. You can pick up the map at the check stations or at Walmart in Lenlock(Anniston) or Jacksonville. And they are still in rut as of last Sunday. You can go to this link and print the maps yourself if you need to, and check out the rules for this WMA.

I'm somewhat confused....the map reads Nov 24 AND 26 (Nov 24 & 26), almost like they are NOT hunting on the 25th. I'm sure I know better, but traditionally it has read "Nov 24-26", not "&". The rut has been wide open for about 10 days now, it's actually probably starting on the downslide. I went up there yesterday and walked around scouting for 3.5 hours, hardly found any sign other than a few rubs.

As far as permits go from areas I'm interested in hunting.
Hollins WMA requires the DAILY permit as written on the WMA map and are only placed at specific entrance roads.

I talked to the Dept. guys a month ago and was told next year they are trying to push requiring DAILY permits on ALL wma's!

Choc already has the boxes mounted where you record harvests and those boxes will hold the daily permits if they get that approved next year.

They said their will be boxes and all roads except for maybe some very obscure rarely used roads..No idea where those are lol

When I was a kid, I remember waiting in line early in the morning for a permit at Choccolocco and Coosa WMAs. I don’t remember how Hollins was. Looks like they are going to go back to that. I haven’t been to Coosa yet this season.

I know a while back there was a problem w people taking all of the maps from the boxes. Hopefully they stopped that crap. You DO NOT have to have a new map for every day you hunt. Just one that’s signed and dated. One is good for the whole year. Not posting this for the members here as much as for anyone lurking out there.

If this hunt were in Zone A I’d be all over it but I don’t have any really productive deer spots in Zone B so I’m sitting this one out. I’ve already killed my meat for the season so unless I can get to one of the A side hunts then I’m probably not going to be getting out there until March for turkey season.

This. Zone B just doesn't hold the deer that A does, nor is the chasing going on in B like it is in A right now. I walked for 3.5 hours in B yesterday, checked several old haunts, just a waste of my time.

Yep I was there as well waiting in line many times with my brother, dad and uncle. Fun times

Also remember there were areas on this side of the FT. that were opened for hunting too..Of course you had to be lucky enough to draw one of those areas...

I wasn't there, but apparently they shot the woods down!!! I was sent pics of 4 different good bucks killed on the B side this morning.

Yea there was a LOT of shooting in Zone B this morning! Every time I heard a shot I couldn't help but think...how many of these hunters are screwing up thinking it's the buck and doe day lol. Which is tomorrow.
I walked up on a deer, was bedded down of the side of a cliff lol It went almost straight down

Then around 2 I had another get close and I didn't see it until I swatted a mosquito and saw it run off..

One of these days maybe I'll get to shoot my BP
