I think it’s a college age thing predominantly. When I got Bama at 18 I met a good many deer hunters. A couple years in and they all moved to duck hunting. Not an insult, but an observation I made back then. I know some 30+ who duck hunt, just more deer hunters.

I’m about burnt out on duck hunting. Just not worth leaving the house at 2am to hopefully shoot a duck. Opening morning last year we left at 8pm the night before and slept in the boat in our spot. I’m guilty of being dd duck hunter since we didn’t start hunting them till it got popular, but no way it remains popular with as much work it takes to kill them

I still love to duck hunt, but 1 trip a year to the Mississippi flyway is enough to satisfy my urge. I'll usually whack a wood duck, and a couple hoods in bama every year but that's it. I hunted a lot more when I lived in Florida and public land opportunities are abound. And actually some very good hunting on the St. John's river system. 2 of us would average 4-8 ducks per morning and a good mixed bag of models, teal, ringers, widgeon, pintails.....

And I'm with y'all on the college age duck hunters. I was serious about it from about 18-26. I thinks it's because duck hunting is soo expensive that once you get out of college and daddy isnt paying for that arkie lease any more, and instead of buying a mud motor your trying to find a wife and buy a house at that age. Plus duck hunting is much more social than any type of hunting I know. I know plenty of duck hunters that drink while hunting which I think would be a draw to the kids

Sounds like it's the same that happened to turkey hunting for me. The excessive crowds made me lose interest. When everybody and their sisters started turkey hunting, it wasn't worth the fight anymore. It changed the turkeys too.

It's a ball if your in the flyway, basically sucks here. If I lived in north MS, I'd duck hunt in the am and deer hunt the pm.

Duck hunted for 3 or 4 years was fortunate back then to have 3 different holes within 30 mins of the house to hunt, but that didn't last long, had a blast doing it, glad I decided to buy that benelli SBE2 as well!! Had a good time with good friends, but was always told that if you want to go duck hunting you had better head to Mississippi or Arkansas

Yea I've all but give up on public land. Haven't hunted any in a couple years. I Will be going to some private land in the morning though. I recognized a couple of names in this thread from the old, now dead alducks.

Duck hunting 3 days a week around Tuscaloosa? Must be a lot of driving.

Long as they shoot every single one of them

And don't shoot a cow or calf

Like many of you, ran the roads in college. Sleeping in trucks, mobile homes with no electricity (that was a private land hunt...no idea why we decided to do that) and racing to holes at times that were closer to midnight than sunrise. For some reason it was a lot of fun back then and we were able to do it 3,4,5 days in a row.

With age comes wisdom and responsibilities.

More power to the guys that can still do it but duck hunting, true running and gunning duck hunting, is a young man's game. I'll take a lazy man's ATV ride to the levee pit over that mess every time these days.

haleyville al,
I loved it. We went to tunica on a 4 day hunt and had a blast. I can not afford it. I'm not talking about having to have the best of everything. It's to dang expensive. Plus if you mess up an shoot the wrong bird. Your done.
