I have been toying with the idea of replacing the sights on both my XD and XDS with night sights. I have been specifically looking at the Ameriglo CAP sight and standard 3 dot, does anyone have these on their pistol and if so how do like them? I am also thinking of doing the work myself but have heard that the sights on these pistols can be a PITA to do, if anyone has replaced their own I would like to hear your experience.

I replaced my own on Glocks with a brass punch. I have other brands of night sights on my pistols but I wanted to pass along my experience before you purchase new sights. If I had to do it over again, I would only put night sights on the front sight. I have three dot, straight eight and the single front night sights. I am changing all to the single front. The back sights are often brighter than the front sight because they are closer to your eye. My eye automatically picks up the brightest (rear) sight then I have to transition to the front sight. I am eliminating this problem by going front sight only. I'm sure training could overcome this but I don't have the time.

You can get a basic sight pusher for 30-40 bucks. Well worth it if you damage a tritium vial or the epoxy holding them in. I have also either gone to just a front sight or different color front. I really like the Trijicon HD line. Orange with a white outline.

I've got the pro i dot on my 17 abd love them. I actually had a piece of old polycarbonate cutting board that i cut to fit like the letter M over my sights abd also used it to install the new set.I've used same piece to install a total of 2 sets so far with no marring or damage at all. If my 26 didn't have a brand new set of meprolights on it I'd be putting another set of idots on it.

I use an air hammer to remove sights on an XD/XDm/XDs...They are that tight...Oh and they go out right to left. NOT left to right.

Thanks gundoc, when you say right to left I assume that is from the hammer end of the slide.

Yes, when looking at the slide from the rear, right to left.

I had forgotten about this before replying to your PM. Another PM is inbound
