How many of you hunt from the ground with a bow or crossbow? Most of my hunting will be done on public land and many times a climbing stand is just not an option.

I do on occasion. Killed a doe from the ground a couple of years ago. Definitely a challenge with no blind. I wear an ASAT leafy suit.

I have an idea in my head for a homemade blind using some camo material. I may end up getting a small pop up blind of some sort. Either way, I am going to give it a try.

Grab with very little movement ,small
Light stand lets me get places with no room to climb or

I have hunted on the ground 90% of the time for 42 yrs.
Gonna hunt out of a stand some this year though.
Natural ground blinds are my favorite method for ground hunting.
Stay clean, watch your movement, play the wind best you can.
Find a blow down, or cut out an area in a clump of bushes, ect..a solid background is important but cover in front is important too.
When commercial treestands came along most folks quit bowhunting on the ground...but it is very doable, just have to be more careful when you draw on a deer on the ground.
If you blend in and watch your movement you will be surprised how well you can hide on the ground.

Thanks for the replies. I am definitely going to give it a try this year. Have a few spots picked out.

It aint near as hard as some would make it out to be.
A comfortable chair/stool will help keep from moving as much.
I probably stand as much as I sit.
If you take some twine along you can ties branches and sticks together for concealment.
If you plan to shoot standing and/or sitting make sure you have your shooting lanes cut for either standing or sitting.
Good luck

I been practicing with my M7 and sticks in the yard.
Honestly, I dont like foolin with a lot of stuff when I hunt, guess that's why I have hunted on the ground most my life...lol

Think Ima sell the M7, I just like things simple.
I dont hunt private land so I cant leave stands on public land and take the chance of someone stealing them.
Guess it's the ground for me.

I carry my summit stand in with me every time, i gun hunt from the ground though and I've gotten pretty close. I may switch up tactics, cuz i wonder if the noise of throwing the stand up and climbing is doing more harm than good, especially cuz i hunt public land too and I'm often going in to spots I've never been before where i end up getting in a tree and not having great visibility anyway
