Well my, son, some freinds, and I are gonna head to the Barbour county WMA this weekend for a camp and hunt trip. Anybody got any suggestions on where to go? My friend has been there before but I have never been. Should be a good time if the stories about the deer up there hold true.

I haven't been since the new rules on harvesting bucks was put into effect. I've heard from friends that it's made a huge difference in the quality of bucks harvested there. Before these rules we would go and sometimes come home with 6 in one weekend for our whole hunting party. However they were all very small body young bucks. I am planning on taking my son to the end of January hunt for his first real hunting/camping trip. You should have a blast down there!

I hunted it a few times about 10 years ago, but never spent enough time to figure it out. However, I did see some very good sign and a lot of very large tracks in road crossings. At the time they had the best looking plots of any WMA I had ever been on. I found two broken tines in one of the plots right where two bucks had the ground completely tore up from fighting.

I havn't hunted there since the early 70's. At that time there were too many people in the woods. You couldn't even find a tree to take a leak behind without having two or three hunters in sight. I was on the Mt. Andrew end of the area.
