I'm a fan of a larger dog that can bay one up if needed. I know those weiners are good trackers, but coyotes like them
If you want to always win, never play anyone better than you!

Really wanting a pup to start training. Thinking hard about getting a wired hair daschund. Well if I can find one in my price range. What other dogs would yall recommend? Thought about getting a cur also. My wife and I love us a dachshund, we have one that is almost 15 now - his replacement will be a combo tracker/family dog. I went to the tracking seminar this past spring and got to see most of the popular breeds in person. Other than the dachshund, CNC's dog Otis was probably my favorite. I really like how good natured he was, not too much energy and seemed to have a good personality. I know what you mean about the price on the german wirehair dachshund puppies, I can't spend that kind of money. I ran across one in Memphis last year for $800 and halfway wish I would have gone ahead and bought it but I'm not sure about bringing a puppy home with the old guy still around. I also liked the Lacy's that were there, some real pretty dogs but looked like high energy dogs also. One guy has a mut from the pound that is a deer tracking machine. I believe he is a mix of wire hair dachshund and poodle.
