I'm new to the area and it's amazing.

Not necessarily the duck hunting but the duck hunters...

There are 3 newly brushed blinds all within a 150 yard stretch. 2 of them are (no exaggeration) 65 yards from one another. They are close to the bayway so my distance perception can't be far off.

I've been keeping up with their progress for the past couple weeks.

It's the area surrounding the state park for you locals.

Strange enough I have seen a few ducks driving to and from work but have absolutely NONE remotely close to those blinds.

Started to see big rafts of coots but none close by either.

Yeah they hunt tight down there by the causeway. I have a few buddies that wear them out in the delta.

If you are in the area let me know and we will go this year. Now that I have moved down I will be down here most every weekend.

I live about an hour and a half to the West, so I'll probably be over there a few times during season. I'll hit you up.

Good luck. That causeway hunting can be an "adventure" to say the least!

Ozark, you are welcome to go with me, but I don't hunt down by the causeway

That's why duck hunting down here is getting to be a pain rather than fun. It gets old building blinds expecting to have a place to go and come daylight there's people in your blind claiming the built it or people getting pissed off because your somewhere they wanted to be so they hunt on top of you. My boat is about to go up for sale and I'm gonna hunt the swamps around my house for woodies

FYI in the Mobile Delta...eons old agreement is first day the blind you build is yours. After that...it's fair game...after all it is a management area and not private ground.

A good story here. About 1990 or so I built a blind and found it inhabited by IED's (high school or college age) before day on the opening. I asked them to kindly leave and take decoys with them. They gave me the usual yada yada yada. I said okay well you can hunt here and pulled up to them and started pulling my cane up. Hey mister what are you doing? Told them I'm going somewhere else you can have this spot. Well we can't without a blind! Exactly...ya'll want to reconsider?
And they did...

Yep, I refuse to get involved in that circus.

Cut cane the day before. Put in at daylight. Go where they aren't...stick cane and hunt...best case

Also if you are new to the area, watch the tides and wind closely. Depending on the moon and how hard the tides are pulling, you can be sitting in an area on the causeway and then an hour later sitting on mud. If a strong north wind starts blowing while you've got an out-going tide, you can go from 24-18" of water to nothing but sitting on mud in just a matter of minutes. Also, there are areas on the causeway, Polecat, Johns Bend, big and little batty, where you can take a 12ft pushpole and shove it all the way down to the handle without hitting anything solid. It's a great area to fish and hunt, you just have to really pay attention to your surroundings and what the weather and tides are doing.

A Zippo lighter, as you leave, won't help the situation improve any, but you'll feel much better.
