Anybody have any experience with one. I looked at one a buddy bought and it seems like a decent rifle. Safety was pretty tuff to move but gun was brand new. I'm looking at getting both my kids new rifles for Christmas and had my mind made up on the Ruger American in 6.5 cr and 243. Options?

I don't know about the compass but I really like my venture. Right now they have a $75 dollar rebate on them and the compass. Rebate is valid for purchases through the end of the year, might can pick up a smoking deal on black Friday.

Triggers a quite heavy, but they aren't hard to lighten up.

I bought one for my son to use (he is 11) in 6.5 creedmoor. too good of a deal to pass up. I went to the range yesterday to sight in the vortex crossfire II I put on it. It is a really sweet shooting gun. 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards after getting to zero. that was shooting off sandbags... I like it alot... not sure if my son is getting it or not...

It would be Ruger American Compact for me if I was buying for my Son.

I was looking at the Ruger american Compact in 7-08 for him, but the deal was too good on this TC compass. I paid $294 before tax with a $75 rebate.. so under $250 taxes and all. The Ruger is a little lighter and shorter, so easier to handle, but I'm 6'6", 240 lbs and my son is big for his age. He will grow into it. Field and Stream has the Ruger compact for $349 ($50 off) now. I have a good friend who swears by all TC products and I have heard nothing but good things about the Ruger American.

I have the Ruger American Compact in 7mm08 for my 8 year old. The short length of pull and short barrel make it easy for him to maneuver, shoulder, and get his eye up to the scope. With 120gr Fusions, it's very accurate and hardly any recoil. (this is with a normal weight 50mm scope on it which gives it a little more heft than with a smaller scope). Trigger is pretty nice. For the price, it's sure an attractive option. It would make a great little tree stand gun too as maneuverable as it is.

Good luck with your TC, I'm sure it will be good as well.
