This morning my pup Raven and I went made a round on the farm. As we got close to a flooded field I saw an eagle swoop down close to the water. As I got closer I saw a snow goose floating out in the water. Raven had never picked up a bird but is a retrieving machine. I stopped let her out the truck and put her on a mark. She saw the bird right away.

I sent her and she was like a bullet.

When she got to it she wasn't to sure what that was.

After a few mins she picked up and brought it to me.
This is here 1st retrieve on a bird ever.
I than notice 2 more birds floating against a levee WAY out in the field. I take Raven down a levee and get her about 200 yds from the birds and put her on mark.

I sent her and she went full speed straight to the birds.

She grabbed the 1st one and headed back.
I sent her back on the 2nd one and she went straight back and grabbed it and brought it to me. There was another couple birds floating out in that field also and she got them too. 5 birds total and she went get every one of them. I was extremely proud of my little girl and a big thanks again to North40R for that pup.
Not sure what killed those birds. I had thought someone did a drive by but couldn't find any sign of them being shot when I did the autopsy.

I think you may be right. They really stack up in these fields at night. These birds were not dead long.

I’ve seen them do that in the huge groups.....used to find several dead of natural causes daily near the sunflower refuge....and way more after a really hard freeze. Some get sick and old. A little stress does them in I guess. Good way to get a dog on birds though. I used to pick up limits of cripples with a great dog I had, in a short boat ride around public land and never load the gun. That dog could smell a cripple from the moving boat.

Good stuff, crazy to see that many dead on arrival.

Awesome!
I messed around with my new dog trailing deer. Family dog mind you. He was only 8.5 months. I told them he had to work to live at our house. Golden retriever. Let him follow a set up at the Camp first night. Two nights later had him on some live action trailing. He finally picked up and got after it. Found a deer that would have been Super hard to find. Super proud of my boy Tripp.
