Got to see it done to my 8 year old this morning. Haven't seen it in a while but it brought back a lot of good memories. Instead of a nice 8 point on the wall, we'll have 6"s of tail up there.

Before anyone starts in on hunting clothes (gear) and the cost..I agree. Made sure it was an undershirt...but the memory is still the same. Good times in the deer woods this weekend; a lot like deer camp used to be.

Anyone got a good story or a shirttail hanging on the wall?

My granddad missed a buck on a deer drive that stillwaters down in dadeville use to do. Said they over 100 hunters out that day and each one cut his shirt. Left him only the collar and a string attaching his front pocket.

In the late 60's just north of Troy at Saco Mr. Jeff Sorrell had a pile of land and he was one of the main private landowners to introduce deer in that area. We would meet on Saturday morning with our dogs and anybody that had a shotgun was welcomed to hunt. Mr Jeff's main rule was that a Game Warden had to be there. One morning we were a little short on standers and the Game Warden took a stand. A big buck dang near ran over him, he shot a few times and the buck kept going. When we gathered back at the store they harvested his shirt, started cutting right beside his front buttons, up to the collar, around the back of his neck and right back down the other side of his buttons leaving just the collar, his sleeves and the "button tie".

Good times right there. Almost every dog club around use to do that. Not many dog clubs around anymore and so not nearly as much socializing at clubs like they use to be.

I agree. Shame too. Some of my best memories were socializing and goofing off between the hunts.

my camp does nothing but socialize, we'll have 10 people in camp and maybe 2-3 will hunt. the rest will get drunk and talk so loud you can listen to their conversations while you sit in the tree stand and they stand by the fire and watch football. and we cut shirt tails but have a few negative nancy's that get their feelings hurt when you try and cut theirs

I was a member of a club at Suttle, we had 22,000 acres along the Cahaba River. Bunch of folks from Bham, didn't hunt much. We had a joint dog drive every year with the adjoining landowner...and a kangaroo court afterwards. Had a real judge as judge, real DA as a DA, defense attorneys out the wazoo. Quite a shindig. My youngest brother killed a big eight point buck, he was maybe 11. The Court charged him with killing too big a deer for an eleven year old and cut his shirttail!! Cut several who missed. Cut one womans shirttail by holding the bra strap and cutting up/across/and down..got the bra strap also!!! Charged another woman with some made up stuff and she ran into the back bedroom and locked the door. When the Baliff went to get her she shot thru the top of the door...and all charges were dropped. Fun club for sure.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

We'll be doing some of that this weekend on the annual swamp hunt. Kangaroo court and all. Fun times. Cant wait to hear those dogs jump in those swamp bottoms.

Man I miss the dog days!!
My dad had a pack of dogs and
was considered the huntmaster since he ran them.
Litttle brother and myself were always with him pushing
those dogs through every imaginable briars, bushes swamp
you name it. The good part was we shot a lot of deer as kids
toting a single shucks shot gun with buckshot.
Man those were great days listening to the gods run deer
and hoping the standers shot one so we did not have to spend a
lot of time finding them. Life has changed ,,I sit in trees and wish I
could run em with Dad once more!
