I have a friend who is losing a lot of ducks by their pond. The pond is completely fenced in, and minks are somehow getting in and killing 1-2 ducks a night.

Thanks

I have never seen a mink in alabama. Thought they lived more north.

They are around, just don’t see them much. First question is are they sure it is a mink snd not a horned owl? If it is a mink, find where it is going under the fence and set a trap. Could also try to bait it in a cage trap.

I've seen a few. Never tried to trap one

I've seen several. More road kills than live ones.

I heard that the way to catch them was to use a live mouse as bait.

There may be better info on live mice as mink bait on trapperman.com

I read online about putting the mouse in a large baby food jar. I guess that would work, if you put holes in the lid for air. The squeaking and scratching would drive a mink wild. The jar could be dropped in a dirt hole, pocket set, box, or cage type trap.

The way I read the regs, using a live lure would be illegal. I have never asked anyone though, and it's not something that really concerns me but thought I would bring it up.
