I replaced all my disposable Berkshire cable stakes with MB finned chain stakes after season ended. I've had some traps out and went to pull them up today. Wow! Those things are tough. It started to bend my stake puller. I had to dig them up.

Obviously, I can't continue to do this. Would a retrieval cable make them easy to pull up or are they still difficult to get out with a cable?

What other method besides a tractor do you use to pull these things out of the ground?

I tried have used my winch on my atv didn't do squat. Honestly, I cut the cable and leave them.

That stinks. Those chain stakes are too expensive to use as disposables and I don't trap the same land all the time so I can't just tie flagging tape to them because I may never trap the same spots

The retrieval cable works pretty well. Before I used the cables I always just dug down next to the chain with a sharpshooter shovel until I could pull them. I still have to dig some but the cable makes it a lot easier.

The cables definitely make it easier. I run my dirt hole auger down beside my chain first then use my stake puller on the retrieval cable and they pop right out.

I'm thinking about using a quick link to attach my retrieval cables to the stake. Would these be strong enough?

I've always been afraid a quick link would unsrew on one of my traps. Most have no idea what a trap goes through when an animal is cough. I

They'll probably be a good bit stronger than compression lugs but my concern would be the added bulk. You could but a crimper and lugs and be ahead $ wise if you have more than a dozen traps.

The added benefit of being able to attach longer cables to whatever I need plus drowning cables for beaver sets made the choice easy for me.
