I’m just gonna say I’m the best motorguide guru on here. I know exactly what your problem is. Here’s how you fix it. Next time your at the lake, unplug the power wire and take out the 6 screws that hold it to the bow and give it a good kick. Go home and tell your wife someone stole it and go buy a minn kota.
Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

Bought a minkota never another problem. Both my boats have motor guides. I thinking of selling both and but a minkota.

There's an Alabama guy on crappie.com that would trade you a Minn Kota ipilot something or other for your Motor Guide. I read yesterday that his boat had been in the shop 27 days this year because of his less than one year old TM. Minn Kota refuses to replace it and just keeps replacing parts

Call Bill at Alabama Trolling Motors. He is very good, and they are very reasonable. If he can tell you how to fix it over the phone he will. It's about a 40-minute drive for you, but they are really good.

Take a multimeter and start working back from the trolling motor. The problem is the component where you stop seeing voltage. I had a Motorguide burn up this spring. It was doing some really weird stuff. I had voltage going to the motor so I knew it was the physical motor. Alabama Trolling Motor replaced it for like $150. You can do it yourself for less.

If he is nice to you you will be pleasantly surprised if he is an ass you will be prepared. He does great work but customer service aint his strong point. Tell him Ben Black says hey!

I have put two control boards in this LU, one original and one from KNOWN GOOD working TM I used as a spare. Still does same thing. Also, swapped out the modules and same thing. Still think it is either POT or 3-way switch. im not the best with motor guides because we werent motor guide dealers, but ive worked on a bunch of em because theyre junk. Ive seen one i think do what youre talking about. I cant remember what fixed it though, im sorry. But i think that i either put a control board or a three way switch in it. But like i said, thats been a long time ago and i cant remember. I wish i could.

Can you bypass the switch to see? Not that I know of. Weird thing is in the momentary position WHEN the TM comes on by itself, when you turn the POT to about 1/4 way from being off, it stops. It does the same thing on constant on. But, it comes up to speed correctly once foot switch is depressed.

Not sure where you are from but there is guy in Prattville that could analyze your problem and have you up and running in no time. He is not really expensive either. I have been taking all of my trolling motors for several years and never been disappointed.
