May try and do this myself. those that have done it, what method did you use to loosen the plugs? I have watched several Youtube videos on this and methods vary. Also, where did you purchase your parts? Does anyone know what the new style plug p/n is for Motorcraft? Thanks.

I will tell you this. there is a product called deepcreep that is like magic on stuck bolts/bearings/keyways and all sorts of other stuck situations. if I had to do this job, I would spray each plug while the motor is still warm and let it soak over night. I would then start with the easiest plug first and work from there. I would also buy the extraction tool in advance. good luck

this. But we used pb blaster. Get Moyer hot and spray each plug down good and let it soak. I haven't broke one but have seen it several times. Pay close attention. good luck.

buddy of mine said to spray with PB while hot, wait an hour or so and use a impact wrench to loosen the plugs. Prayers sent. Sorriest POS example of Ford engineering in a very long time.

I have seen two good videos on this and one used PB blaster and the other used some type of penetrant by Seafoam. Both used impacts. Said that the impact with the short bursts was less likely to break than using a ratchet.

loco I know. But, I am a tight arse.

I never changed mine in my 04. I thought about doing it but I started hearing all the horror stories about them breaking and so on. I said nope. Mine was an 04 that ran like a dream. Never had a bit of problem out of it.

I even checked the stealership and they said they couldn’t guarantee and breaking. Then they would have to remove the pieces at additional cost to me.

I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

We warm up the truck, crack all the plugs loose a half turn soak with kroil, wait an hour and use a 20 impact driver. Almost never break one this way.

What year is the truck? If it's an 08, what is the date of MFG?
Asking as the FFV 08's like mine have different design heads that utilize one piece plugs. They are a whole lot easier to replace.

Using any replacement coils other than Ford usually ends in disappointment. A very good thing to do is replace the boots and inner spring. Be sure to clean the contact point where spring meets the coil with emery cloth or similar.

If they are two piece plugs the above recommendation using Kroil is as good as it gets.

If PB blaster is gold , Kroil is platinum.

I first changed my 2006’s at 100,000 miles. On Amazon for $180, I bought the Lisle extraction tool, same oem Motorcraft 2 piece plugs, nickel anti sieze, cop boots/springs, and dielectric grease.

I warmed the engine, cracked the plugs, sprayed PB and set up overnight. Next day I tried an easy to reach one to get a feel for it. I broke it really quick because I forgot to turn down the air pressure for the impact gun. The other five easy to reach went great but I broke the back two. I spent a bunch of time getting the three broken ones out using the tool (which does work well), and vacuuming the cylinder with a small vacuum tube. I used anti seize compound on the lower part of the plugs and got em all in. Then installed the cops/cop boots and springs with dielectric grease.

Worked like a champ for 80,000 miles til I had my first cop go bad. I cheaped out by buying a cheap set of 8 cops from Amazon for $40. I replaced all of them versus just finding the bad one. I kept all the originals because I’m sure if one of the cheapos goes bad then I can find a good oem one. Since I was gonna be in there I did the plugs 20k early. Man it was so easy because of the anti seize compound. That was over a year ago and a bunch of miles still going strong. I love this freaking truck. I hate that some have had bad experiences but not me.

Sorry for the long post, good luck. If you were close I’d be glad to help. My shop is slowly becoming a more organized nightmare. Some day I can see being able to work on something out there.

Never tried an impact but I do make sure the engine is at operating temp. I've never had one break but I do have the removal tool as I've had to get several out that other folks broke. It's never taken more than a few minutes with the tool. I did have one come in that we had to pull the head off and replace it where the neighbor of the customer tried to help finish the job. I always loosen slightly then tighten going a little farther each time till it turns easily using a little PB all the way

Curious to hear what year and mileage the OP is talking about.

2005 and it has 230K on the clock. Only reason I am thinking about it is because the cop look like oem. I wish I had someone on here that had access to Ford service to run vin for info. The cop have the writing on top of them with a yellow slash line on them. That is why I think they are original.

No codes. Just when I go to accelerate real hard it starts to pop and skip. Mostly from a roll to 15 mph. Just put a new TB on it last week. Problem was there before TB install.

I changed mine on a 2008 at around 150K. Bought the Lisle tool and used Motorcraft plugs. Changed all the COP shortly thereafter also. Bought the cheap COP. Having a few issues now and wished I had went with a better grade. I got the engine to temp, backed the plugs out about 1/2 turn, sprayed with carb cleaner and then PB blaster then let it soak for several hours. Tried a socket wrench first and broke a few then used the impact on the rest. Impact worked like a charm. I'd back them out then run them back in a bit to loosen them before taking the plugs out all the way. Had no problem getting the broke ones out with the tool. Used nickel anti-seize on the new plugs just in case. It was somewhat of a hassle, but saved me a bunch of money doing it myself. Also changed the oil after I was done just to be on the safe side.
