Does anyone here hunt in Alabama at all? I’ve hunted in TN over the years but haven’t ever heard much out of it in Alabama. I figure a lot is it counts toward your spring limit and it being gobblers only in the fall makes it pretty tough. A fall gobbler don’t care about much but eating a little by and staying alive. He could really not give a dang if he is alone or with someone. I’d love to try calling in a gobbler in the fall if I could find a spot in one of the open counties down here. I’ve only killed a couple gobblers in the fall in TN and a couple young jakes over the years.
Some men are mere hunters; others are turkey hunters. —Archibald Rutledge—

I live in one of the few counties that allow it, but never even give it a second thought.
But at least AL won’t let Fall hunters shoot hens and got that part right. I’ll take any opportunity possible to mention how ridiculous the states are that allow multiple Fall hens to be shot.

One of my places allows it but I'd rather wait till spring time, I prolly don't have the proper calling skills to trick him in the fall

I used to fall hunt in Wilcox years ago. VERY tough hunting. I bought a three barrel drilling gun just for fall hunting in case a big buck showed.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Fall hunting is alot easier than spring to me if you can get close to a roosted flock. I called up 9 longbeards last Saturday only 8 left I hunt where I can't scout and have to travel long distance to, and it seems like fall hunting is a lot harder than spring hunting IME. Locating is harder and calling them in is harder (assuming no dog is involved).

I find killing a 2+ year old gobbler in the fall to be at least 10X harder than spring hunting.
