Our property was recently cut (again). They left some long, wide lanes that we would like to utilize for new hunting spots. There's tons of debris and stumps. If we have these areas mulched, how long does it typically take before we could grow anything there?

About a week after spreading seed and dragging it in. Add extra N.

Well, we have a lot of potential area to do. I probably should have clarified that we would not mulch it down to powder. We would leave the bigger chips and let them break down. I just figured with all of the sap on the ground it would take at least a year but that is just a guess on my part.

It will probably burn up a lot of nitrogen in the breakdown process but it should grow a decent food plot.

If the mulch is too thick nothing will grow, that's why we put it around tree's and flower beds to keep weeds and grasses at bay.

one thing to remember, the mulch is placed thick to suppress seed in the soil from germination. Here he is seeding into the mulch.

If it's pine mulch, pour the lime to it. The pine shavings will really lower the pH.

Wood chips go through a heating process also. If it has been too short of a time it will burn up the young plants.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!
