I always hate these threads because doekiller makes me think too much. I admit, I'm usually the "rush to execute" guy, but Scott always makes me rethink my position.

So what due process did the police officer get? Justice is also suppose to be swift.

If you could KNOW, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that for every 100 guilty people executed, 1 completely totally innocent person was also executed through no fault of their own - just "bad luck", would you still be for the death penalty?

I would not.

I'm still for the death penalty in some situations - as mentioned above in cases where the person is caught in the act, owns up to it, etc - where there is ZERO chance they're innocent.

But I'm not personally willing to risk the life of 1 innocent person (no matter how slim that chance may be) to take the life of 100, or 1000, or 10,000 guilty people. To me, 1 innocent life is worth a WHOLE LOT MORE than countless guilty lives.

But that's just me...

I agree with you however, I think it needs to be a case by case basis. If you are guilty beyond the shadow of a doubt like this guy was why wait?

Exonerated on what grounds? Low IQ, juvenile offender, biased jury? Hundreds were not exonerated for the sole reason that they did not commit the crime.

My thing is why use the drug combo that takes 30 minutes to kill an inmate? I can't recall the name but I know there is a drug that you can inject that will stop the heart in 5 seconds. Think it's potassium chloride.

You are correct. I would prever them to suffer a little. Like maybe give them VERY large dose of Doxorubicin then allow about 100cc of it to extravasate in the tissue around the IV site. They need to know what pain, suffering, and agony feels like. But, my beliefs will not allow me to find any happiness in someone else's demise. The need for vengeance can eat your soul and true happiness away.

Executions like this are a waste. Put them at the head of the organ donor list. They took from society, let their last act be giving back to society. Need a liver, tomorrow at 12:05 we will have you one.

When Roy Johnson was in the Alabama Legislature back in the early 80's ( back before he was convicted and sentenced for bribe🙂) he introduced a bill to bring back public hangings but with a twist. There would be a charge to view the hanging, and I believe the money would go back to the victim. Roy said it would sell out!! Obviously, our black brethren gasp in horror but I think he is right. It would sell out and you could probably sell popcorn and soft drinks! I'd be on the front row to see some of these bastards get their neck stretched!
