I was hoping this thread was to inform that it went dry rofl

(by far my worst lake) This year when our "club" fished it, I passed and didn't even go.

This is probably no help at all, but two friends fished there last Saturday and said they had a good buzzbait bite. I know they launched from Beeswax, but don't know where they fished. If I had to guess, I'd say they started in there (one of them always goes back under the bridge first thing)

I've fished it by kayak a handful of times between May and July. It sucked as far as quantity. The few I did catch had good size.

How'd you do in the tourney? We launched out of Beeswax and ran up to the steam plant. Only caught 3 but they were good size. When we got back to the launch a club out of Dothan was weighing in. They were all complaining about the bite being slow today.

I fished from 1-5 today and caught probably 15 keepers deep 20 ft of water. Fishing partner fished the tournament Nd had 12.5 lbs and lost 2 over 4 all his fish came shallow shallow shallow. Said he had 12 or so bites in the grass and could have had 16-17 lbs

If Ive ever had to fish the lower end I almost never go to paint creek. The small sloughs and creeks around the Alabama Power tamp almost always put more in the boat for me. The channels in there are deep and theres always good grass. Ive won tournaments on just a few docks in those sloughs and around the islands at the mouth. Actually caught my biggest fish on a patch of willows next to a red dock just off the main lake over there. Pitching a sprayed grass sweet beaver.

Sounds like the trip I had just a few weeks ago where I told you about back in yellow leaf. I love lay. Spent summers there in Shelby Shores for over a decade of my childhood. No other lake has so much feature within a flat bottom boat ride of what used to be our dock on downs circle

You fellas are my idols grin laugh

When I grow up I'm gonna be able to catch fish on Lay too!

We went to Guntersville and stroked em on frogs...thought that bite was over, but apparently it's hot again. My friend had a "big" fish (maybe 5/6/7 pounds) clobber a buzzbait 10' from the boat, but missed it. Otherwise all our fish were 2 to 3.5 pounds, but they hit that frog like bull orangutans with their hair on fire!!

Yeah nows the time for buzzin on big g. I love it just as much as froggin. I use a naked buzzbait with a zoom horny toad as a trailer. I like the VMC trailer hooks because they come with rubber over the eyes. Push that down against the bulk of that toad and I nearly never worry about grass getting hung. I will go around the grass in goose pond, alreds, and Preston island with it and they will come out of the water like jaws after it. The majority of the fish caught right now doing that are skinny since they are just starting to gorge on shad schooling in the creeks and flats but they are still a hoot to catch.

About Lay: its just like any other lake you dont go to but a few times a year. You might get on them a few times but the true test comes with many hours, days, and years of running those waters. I used to run lay at night in my flat bottom and even ran the channels cut through the stick-ups with no problem but its because I spent so much time chasing spots in current, chasing bream during mayfly hatch, crappie fishing in the dead of winter with slip bobbers, and finding those hybrid stripe schools with a rooster tail and catching hundreds a day. Im no pro but anyone can learn any lake if they fish it enough. I still have horrible days on Lay but I rarely put the boat on the trailer after getting skunked and thats usually because I was trying something new and sticking with it good or bad.
