I had to go to the dermatologist in Huntsville this a.m. so I stopped by Hayes Nature Preserve and got in my morning walk. The main walking trail parallels the Flint River. A lot of bank access. I'm just wondering what the fishing is like, what baits you'd use and what you might catch.
I was thinking maybe a small Rat-L-Trap or a Mepps or Roostertail. This is really a pretty place if you live in Huntsville or Hampton Cove and you're looking to get outdoors. I'd never been here until today.

I fished that area a couple times with another guy. We used white or yellow roostertails. I caught the bigger ones on a grape or motor oil 6 or 4 inch worm with a pegged weight. Seems like maybe a crawdad looking jig too. It was fun till they quit.

There's a bunch of baits that'll work there, but the one I throw 90% of the time is a black and yellow 1/8oz beetlespin. I've fished all up and down the flint, from kayaks and wading, and they'll tear that bait up.

Ive fished the flint from tenness to ditto landing and they will beat this bait to death. Bring more than one.ive also caught smallies on an ivory fluke.

Z-Man finesse shroomz weedles jighead with a small z-man watermelon craw. The bass love it but make sure if a bigun takes it to really set the hook into that lip...hard.

Black with a yellow stripe or yellow with a black stripe?

Well, dayum, I'm gonna have to go back over there one day just to see.

I've never fished the Flint river but I fished the Conecuh river quite a bit when I lived in Troy. For bass, I used a Zoom finesse worm on a 1/0 hook, unweighted, or put a split shot about 18" up from the hook. Bream fished with a Keystone minnow or crickets.

Yep. If I'm just screwing around with friends in a creek or pond, I'm throwing one of these. They may catch some bigger ones than me, but I almost always catch more.
