Any suggestions for a good legume mix for next spring ? Starting to plan a better approach for next year.
Forage Soybeans-Cow Peas- Grain Sorghum is pretty standard. Are there better varieties of sorghum than WGF ? Any specific varieties of beans, peas or other seeds you've had success with ?
"Cull" is just another four letter word...

I plant the soy corn clay peas mix each year in my biggest field and it does great but the best mix I’ve found for solid summer growth is Alyceclover and jointvetch. I have heavy red clay soil and it grows like crazy and the deer love it. It’s 5-6 feet inside the exclusion cage and it looks like it’s been bush hogged to a foot outside. The more they eat it the more it grows. I spray it twice a year with Butyrac and clethodim to keep it clean. I’ve planted it every year for about 6 years now and it produces even during drought. It doesn’t produce as well in sandy soil but if you have heavy soil, spray it and fertilize with 0-20-20 I can just about gauruntee you will be amazed at the growth and usage. It does well in smaller plots of a 1/2 acre even with some shade and a high deer density and is high in protein. I plant it after turkey season when the soil warms up. I never hear of anyone else planting it and don’t know why. It’s been a wonder planting at my place in Lee Co. What planting rates are you using for this mix?
I love my country, but don't trust my government.
