The ringing has been much worse since that stopped up feeling came on

Exactly what I am experiencing

Went down that road with my Dr and that is not it. Caffeine and salt cause fluid retention, which may or may not aggravate the ringing. I quit both (which sucks by the way) and saw no improvement. So now I limit my salt and caffeine just because I needed to do that anyway, but the ringing is here to stay.

I was speaking more to outback and left with the muffled sound in the ears. I know that does not cause tinnitus

Yep. My left ear rings all the time. I’m good during the day working but at bedtime I like to have the fan running.

Dang, glad to know I'm not alone, however I would have never thought that so many just on this website experience it as I do. Mine is worse in the left ear also. I shoot left handed also. I wonder if that is why?

Ringing is about the same on both sides. Hearing loss is worse in the right. There was a time when I fired a lot of rounds every week with no hearing protection so that's got to be part of it (right handed). I'm also in a family who is very common to go deaf early so probably partly hereditary as well.

Doesn't really matter, once it's gone, it's gone. I can hear pretty good with the higher powered hearing aids but they drive me nuts and I don't wear them.

I can almost hear normal with the powered ear muffs and I do wear them.

A right handed shooter will actually have worse hearing loss in their left ear than their right.

The shooting may not be the reason one of mine is worse then. I can't think of anything else I've done to it. I despise loud music and exhaust pipes so never had much close proximity to either.

Have had it for at least 37 yrs since teens. With all of us having it who's to say it's not an actual noise going on?

Alien mind probes?

Mine have been ringing about that long too. And I don't believe I have noise damage. My dad had it really bad by the time I was a teenager, so I always used hearing protection when shooting a lot. But mine started ringing as a teenager and just get worse. My high frequency hearing is gone, but low frequency is fairly normal. I can still hear a turkey gobble, so I'm thankful for that.

I believe my condition is inherited. Every man on both sides of my family has it.

I cant call mine ringing. Its more of a buzzing/cricket type noise. It's a wonder I hear as good as I do. I've never worn ear protection much. I did in military and do now at the range. Never have when hunting.

It is basically a symptom of hearing loss and one does not typically have ringing without a hearing loss. Mine was of course blamed on guns, but as I have said in other threads, I believe it all has more to do with numerous ear infections early in life(all anecdotal evidence and I'm not a doctor).

Oh yeah - I have had chronic ear infections since my mid 30s. That's going to be the other thing. The bad one will rupture every now and then and puss will run out before I realize it's badly infected.

I had tubes put in as an adult and one has fallen out (the right one). I should probably go see about that but my ENT and me had a falling out when he did the roto rooter (throat/nose) surgery for apnea.

Anybody know a good ent that's not Jebeles?

Dr. Grayson Rodgers in B'ham @ St. Vincents is who two separate Drs., my GP and the first ENT I saw, recommended I see when my Acoustic Neuroma issue surfaced. They both told me that he's the best in the South East. Nice guy too.

I got off the lawnmower march of this year and felt like pressure was in my ear like coming off of a mountain.....thought it would go away....after about 10 visits to the ent...all the testing was done...finally ear tubes to see if that relieved it, which it did not...she finally came to the conclusion mine was Meniere's Disease...which explains my vertigo for the past 2 years...Its not something I would wish on my worst enemy....I have always been in controll of every aspect of my life and this was just something I could not get well or get away from....There is no cure..(also have the ringing in the ears)..so it sent me into depression and very bad anxiety which I have never had in my 52 years....so my small hometown DR. finally said Alan we have to get your head right ...its not letting you past this (I do have ocd also) which was letting this drive me insane...He gave me medication for this which is the last thing i wanted but within a few days I was starting to feel a bit normal again....I hate the fact that I have to live this way but Man I am very fortunate and I know this.....Lot's of people worse than me....I read one article from a guy that said he would trade this disease in a second for cancer...He said he would at least know he was going to get better or Die....I was thinking wow and at the same time understood......Enough rambling....this actually has made me a far better person in my mind.
