Has anyone used a chatterbait for reds? How did it work?

If I wanted to use live bait it would be shrimp. I'm strictly an artificial guy.

I used them this past tournament season in LA and did well with them. I had several of the z-man chatterbaits get bent beyond using, hooks and blades. I used gulp swimming mullet as a trailer.

Take a lot of them because they'll probably eventually tear 'em up.

White/black or shad color skirt to mimic a mullet, or something brown-pumpkinseed with maybe a twin-tail trailer to mimic a crab. If you're not around vegetation and don't have problems with anything snagging-catching in the blade, they should eat the snot out of it.

we catch them on the delta this time of the year on a chatter bait with some type of swim bait for a trailer. they will tear one up.. they have no issues hitting a spinner bait either.. our favorite way to target them this time of year is with a gulp on a jig head under a regular bream cork and with a spinner bait with or with out the skirt on it with a swim bait on it..

If artificial, it's hard to beat a gold spoon. I will pull a spinner bait sometimes though. They will for sure hit a charter bait. Anything with vibration or a lot of water displacement will bring them in.

Must be nice to live in a state that lets you actually keep fish occasionally. You're illegal in FL with that catch unless you have 8 people on the boat. We just grow them over here in NW FL for y'all to catch at a later date. No shortage over here for sure. I can do the same thing over here everyday I fish but in FL only allowed to keep 1 fish per person/day with a 18-28" slot. Anything over-sized is a ticket.

Perch, 3/8 oz blue and black colored chatterbait with a gold blade, white twin curl tail trailer or white with orange tips if you can find them. Fish it around docks, reed lines, oyster beds or any hard cover you can find. Make sure you have a good grip on your rod. Can also do the exact same thing with a #4 bruiser sally with the same trailers. Both imitate a small blue crab and will get slammed if one is around.

Went and caught a three man limit this morning. Also caught some rats and a few specks. Gulp and a jig head. That's it. Bite died about 9.

Headed to Homosassa in about 10 days, we'll fish the whole week down there for reds and specks and snook (and jacks, and ladyfish, and Spanish, and about a dozen other things it seems!)

Where we catch those reds is usually REALLY shallow water, and it's a "rocky" bottom that just about anything gets hung in instantly. So I'm limited to something there (artificial wise) that doesn't run deep. We absolutely smash them on F13 floating Rapalas. Many times you don't even get your reel engaged after the cast before they crush it!! But you can twitch, twitch that thing a few times and usually see the wake coming....they donkey-punch it!!

Once the tide bottoms out we'll move out of the mangrove creeks onto the flats and start speck fishing, and they hammer that Rapala too. I also have great success with a 3/16 jig head and any kind of "shrimp tail" plastic grub. It's pretty cool the way we do it....we'll put out the drift sock and float long distances over the grass flats, and just about any time you find a deeper depression with the kelp grass, it's on!! I love to see them come out of nowhere and boil those lures.

We were on the edge of Eternia, when the power of Greyskull began to take hold.

We fished orange beach the last few days and you can't cast at the pass bridge or jetties without catching a lady fish

Fun.... then annoying

Sounds like fun! I'm headed to the Chandeleur Islands to do and catch a lot of the same in about 10 days myself.

^^ a buddy just made that trip last week and absolutely slaughtered the trout and reds. Carry several topwater lures.
