Just saw on twitter where there was a shooting at a church in metro area of Nashville. In the town of Antioch. Reports are saying 8 injured including the shooter. How disgusting.

Our church formed a security team after the SC church shooting. I know the odds of someobody coming in our church armed, with the intent to kill "us" is probably higher than somebody winning the lottery but we are prepared now. We don't have the means to prevent someone from entering without locking all the doors, which seems to be a little counterproductive for a church to do, but if somebody comes in shooting, they're going to meet armed resistance.

That's terrible. I can even begin to understand what would make someone do such a thing.

Several years ago I worked security at a local Church back in VA. It was a part time gig we did for a few extra bucks when we wasn't working at the dept. It was a plain clothes gig that wasn't bad.

Fast forward to now it's a sad thing to need armed security at Church. Our primary roll back then was the offering plates (thieves would try and rob them).

Terrible. We had an mentally unstable individual with a significant arrest record threatening our church a couple of years ago. Several of our members are now armed.

Churchs have had to put someone in their parking lots for a long time. I know some in Mobile had people 20 yrs ago due to thieves hitting parking lots. I'm such there is a special space in hell for thieves that hit Churches.

I go to a very small church near I65. There's often traffic coming from the interstate stopping by. We formed a security team for that very reason.

Not to diminish this action but Antioch is not exactly the desirable neighborhood to live in or even drive through in Nashville.

Pretty sure the really poor decent people who grew up there and had no other options would appreciate your view of their place.

I'm part of our church's security team. We lock all the doors except front entrance at 10 after. On our Sunday to monitor, I'm the "rover" and my wife monitors the cameras. If she sees something unusual, she calls me and I check it out.
We don't have a formal policy on arms but the rovers I know all have CC permits. I pray to God I make it through life without ever having to shoot anyone but I will defend my church family just as I will defend my family at home.
Our security monitoring all started as a result of some car break-ins during service. I can't imagine a church not having a security plan this day and age.

You guys that do church security have armor?

I have to stop off there and work in the vicinity so I'm aware of the location. Working in the area I am also aware that a good portion of the people that grew up and live in the vicinity have the same view. I'm not commenting on them. I am commenting on the fact that you can't stop off for gas without fear of carjacking or getting mugged.

I had/have a slim vest that I wore under my shirt. You can't really see it unless I have a tight fitting shirt on

I'm always armed,even in Church.

Anyone who doesn't have armor - look on ebay. The manufacturers warrant them for five years and you see a ton of them on the used market for as low as 50 clams shipped for II-A and III-A sometimes. The feds won't keep them past where the warranty runs out. Throw a soft trauma pad in there rated at III-a or rifle and you're way ahead of the next folks. You can put a pad on there with duct tape too if it doesn't have a pocket.

They don't go bad - Me and a bunch of my shipmates used old ones from 5 to 25 years old to shoot the crap out of because we could get them for free and they all held up to what they originally claimed.

If I was a normal person, I would have a closet full of those things in various sizes. Female ones are often cheaper than male ones - they wear fine and the lumps on the front go down soon after you put them on.

We wear Kevlar vests and tote Desert Eagles. Our greeters wield ARs while they hand out the bulletins.
