Thanks!

Apparently not.
Does anyone besides straycat know what it means?

Yes. I am going to encapsulate my crawlspace this winter.

For an example

Travis had his encapsulated. I'd like to have mine done, but isn't a priority to me right now. It sure makes a crawlspace tolerable.

Travis ended up shopping around an went with Terminix. Seems like he got a lot better of a deal from them.

Thats purdy neat.
I never understood why anyone builds on a dark, damp spider infested cave. But if I found myself in that unfortunate position , the encapsulation would surely be on my to-do list.

Is that insulation still in between the floor joists?
I just grabbed a pic off the internet. I assume it is, which I have been told by several contractors should be removed.

Every encapsulaeted crawlspace that I've seen had the insulatoin removed, but I guess some just leave it.

I really need to do my crawlspace.

I just call that a vapor barrier under the house.

Duraskrim 12WB is a good material to use, and its a lot tougher than poly sheeting.

Did about a 7,000 sqft crawl space 6 months ago

It was a commercial building. I didn't personally do it, but read enough about it and explained how to do it for the crew.

Just went back and looked at the folder, and it was actually just shy of 11,000 sqft

What is the point of a crawlspace? Most of the houses I've ever owned or lived in were on a slab.

I would guess for a home that sits on a lot with a good bit of elevation changes.

I use Alabama foundation specialist. It's priced, but man it looks good when they are finished.

Like Jeremy said. I had mine done just over a year ago. I wish I had before and after pictures. Mine had to be done. It was probably the worst crawlspace I'd ever been in as far as height and wetness from ground.

Had several estimates.(1,200sqft) All said I needed a full encapsulation, sump pump and dehumidifier.

I had gotten several quotes. Terminix was about half the price as the crawlspace companies I talked to. I had mine done for $4500 by them. I thought there was no way they could be half the price and have quality work. I had their sales guy take me to two jobs they did in my area and I'd put it up there with the best quality crawlspace companies I've seen and I go in a whole lot of crawlspaces. AFS is by far the most expensive from my experience and customers I've talked to.

Back when i was a termite twchnician for cooks, i put alot of moisture barriers in and i inspected a few encapsulated crawlspaces. Suckers are nice hands down better than a traditional MB..but wayyyy more expensive. I heard of alabama fondation doin one about 4500sq ft an i think it was like 6 or 7 thousand dollars. Vs. A $300 MB. They nice tho its like a swimming pool liner under your house. So clean you can bout eat offem tho.
