The preacher sort of stepped all over my feet Sunday. He named a lot of different things and said "You can find time to do these things, but not 10 minutes to read your Bible." He was speaking dead on to me.
I've challenged myself to reread the Gospels in the coming weeks and hopefully I'm not going to stop there, going to reread the whole New Testament I hope. It's been awhile I'm ashamed to say.

You're a good man for doing it. It takes commitment to make time for faith these days.

Every January our preacher gives us a read the bible in a year schedule, the schedule is updated monthly. He changes it each year so the reading sequence is different. After 2 or 3 weeks of 15 minutes a day reading, you regret missing a day.

I'm reading the New King James Version. I've never read that version. Trying to make it a habit shortly before bedtime. I have the Bible Study app on my phone. You can choose from several versions.

I grew up with the KJV, but over the past couple of years have enjoyed reading from the ESV.

Good post and so true. We also need to look at our giving the same way. I look at what we spend on phones and eating out a month etc and compare it with our tithing and it hits home also.

Most professing Christians have never read the Bible cover-to-cover.

i've heard it takes 72 hours for the average reader to get through the Bible. that's about an hour plus a bit A WEEK for a year. that is a paltry investment of time ...

I have recently been challenged to start each day with a devotion. Starting the day so as to meditate all day on your word from God. I havent really got the habit down yet. I think it does improve your outlook for the day when you start with God's word, instead of dread for work, or just everyday stress, problems. Awesome thing to hear you are a child of God, I know the plans I have for you, you are His workmanship (masterpiece), and the many other promises of God for each of us.

Proverbs 21 2:

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts.

Easy to be the man in the above Word, when we are not in Word but of the World.

Thanks for the accountability.

May the Lord Bless each of you, as you spend time studying and pondering the living Word.

God Bless,
David B.

i think it best to read in the morning, after the first cup of coffee. if you have to get up 15 minutes earlier, before the rest of the family, it is worth it ...

I start off each day reading this Bible. At least a chapter a day. Each time I finish I start over. Been doing so for years. In Revelation now, always fascinates me. I think when I complete it this time I'll restart with Matthew in stead of Genesis.

Its a good way to start your day. I dont do enough of it. I eat my breakfast and watch Fox News. So instead of filling my head with the gospel, I fill my head with the worlds problems.

I really don't know how many times I've read through the bible. Over that past several years, my phone links up with my truck, and I use a bible app to read to me on my way to work each morning (Usually about a 30 minute trip).

While reading is helpful, studying is where I really learn. Sometimes I will listen to the same chapters all week, then make notes of what I want to study and investigate.

Also teaching a bible class is extremely helpful. I am currently teaching Leviticus and Numbers. It has been very challenging and enlightening.

One of the biggest things I see is that people go to the bible to prove what they already believe instead of going to the bible and letting that determine what they believe. While we are to earnestly contend for THE faith, (Jude 3), most bible discussions seem to be pointless because everyone's mind is already made up. With something so important, why would anyone trust what someone else says rather than going and studying it for themselves.

So AC870, good for you!!!

I've read the KJV, NKJV, and NIV cover to cover. It just takes commitment to do it. Now I'll read a devotion and the scripture associated with it, and pray, while I have my first cup of coffee.

I am going to challenge myself to do this. I have not been great or a good Christian in the past but I am a believer and trying to get stronger in my faith.

I need to do this too. Last year I listened to an audio Bible while driving and got all the way through by some time in September. Much of it I listened to multiple times, but it's not the same as reading it. Sometimes I would catch my mind drifting and not remember anything in the previous chapter so I would restart it. Again, I need to open it up and read more with the TV off. AC870, thanks for this post.

I do a daily devotion which includes some Scripture and I have read the NT start to finish once, and the Gospels many times. AC I've been struggling with the same thing your preacher got all over you about, so maybe your post was directed at me. My life is better when I spend 30 minutes a day reading scripture and to be honest I haven't done it in a long while.

I read the NAS Version and in 2014 made a commitment to read thru the Bible in a year. I actually did it for the first time ever and need to do it again. I really need to start now and do it again.

Can anyone recommend a good App? After looking around for my Bible I can't find it from the move. I know that sounds horrible.

The most popular is the Bible app. It's a brown logo that says Holy Bible. You can do reading plans and subscribe to different devotions.

Thanks Recurve. I will check it out. I am going to go look into getting the grandaughters their own Bibles. They are 11 and 9 so they should be responsible enough to take care of them.

The one I use is YouVersion. It is the brown bible icon with Holy Bible on the cover.

Teen Bible would be a good one for them in a couple years. I'm not sure if they have a preteen Bible but I always liked mine.

I have the Life Application Study Bible now and love it.

A few years ago, I was following along with the sermon on my app while visiting my mom's church. She punched me and said "You need to quit playing on your phone in church."

I would encourage a system that includes some OT,some NT, Psalms,Proverbs every day rather than just starting at Gen. and going through Rev.

Proverbs are especially good for starting the day and psalms especially good for ending it.

Even if you aren't a member, one can get the Church of the Highlands app and they have a one year reading plan that includes a devo, OT, NT, Psalms, and Proverbs for every day of the year. I really like it.

I like biblegateway to look up stuff when I don't have my bible. Can switch between versions to get a better understanding. Also have the one source app to listen to sermons from a bunch of different pastors

Read the first 3 chapters of Matthew today at lunch. Hope and pray I can stay with it.

in the corner
I have read the 4 Gospels, in Acts now, but been a while since I've read. I like total peace, quiet and solutide when I read the Bible. And that hasnt been available lately. I dont want to just read it, I want to understand it.
