Hate the word "frat"
You don't call your country your "cunt" That's damn funny. My buddy's wife hates that word. Told her if she'd stop acting like one, I'd stop calling her one. Sorry, get back to your thread

Rooster, I tell you what, you might be right,...
I used my daddy's money for 4 years of fraternity dues and all I did was come out with a hella good time, met my wife of 12 years at a swap, picked a handful of groomsmen to be in my wedding who are now lifelong friends, I say it worked out pretty well.
Money well spent

Tried. But my shorts were too long.
Nah I considered it but didn't have time.
I hope we have once again reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. Theres a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: as government expands, liberty contracts. Ronald Reagan

Kappa Sigma- Huntingdon College. Wound up being the Grand Master (President) of the Chapter....that was an experience to say the least. Probably more responsibility than a person at that age should have to bear. Regulating a crew of young men at that age must have been a serious challenge.

Matt pretty much summed up what happened with all of them, and he was there quite a few years before me. It used to be a bunch of good ole boys, and has turned into nothing but Atlanta, Mobile and Birmingham kids with a brand new King Ranch or Duramax that has never seen a trailer. You forgot California and New Jersey

Kappa Sigma- Huntingdon College. Wound up being the Grand Master (President) of the Chapter....that was an experience to say the least. I lurked on this thread to see if there were any other HC alumni in here. Good to see I'm not the only one. I played football so joining a fraternity wasn't an option due to time constraints. Had I gone to AU as planned before deciding to play ball, I would have tried to join. Any group of 18-21 year olds will have their fair share of idiots, but there are a lot of advantages of being in a fraternity. Most of the guys that went through it are doing pretty well for theirselves now which some is due to all the connections you make in something like that.

id say so. I remembered the stats being staggering, so I looked it up. I would predict those percentages would be higher if not effected by other successful people who went military route.
85 percent of U.S. Supreme Court justices since 1910, 63 percent of all U.S. presidential cabinet members since 1900, and, historically, 76 percent of U.S. Senators, 85 percent of Fortune 500 executives. 69% of POTUS since creation of fraternities.

I was there when it was good. It went to shucks 15 or so years ago. Bunch of city boys got in and drugs and stupid crap got them. It was mainly Montgomery, Dothan and Selma guys til the Atlanta guys got in. Went to shucks real quick. When I was in school and I assume still applies the joke was, SnortAboutEverything. I believe now from the couple guys I knew in SAE, a lot of guys are from Mobile. I'm from Mobile and was a recent SAE at Auburn. Was mostly the Atlanta guys that brought on the troubles. Heard they got kicked off campus last year.

Pointless to even try to argue when someone has preconceived notions. I went to Montevallo and do not know if I would have joined a fraternity at a large school. We were a bunch of "good ole boys" from cities like Clanton, Thorsby, Oneonta and Chickasaw. We excelled in the classroom and held many leadership positions on campus.
I will say this - coming out of High School and JUCU, I was very quiet and had never really spoken in public. One member said I had "leadership potential" and made sure that I got involved on campus. Would that have happened without the fraternity? I will never know. I do know that I became President of the fraternity, was held accountable academically, made some lifelong friends and met my wife, so I think it turned out ok and I never once thought of this as "buying" friends. Thanks to those who have served our country.

Was nominated president & restarted a dormant fraternity at UA, can't even remember the name 'cause I quit after my freshman year ...

CeeHawk.....glad to see another HC Alumni on the Board. I was there from 1996-2000. I only stayed at HC because of the fraternity so it had a profound impact on my life. Fun school for first 3 years then admin change my senior year entailed me having a weekly meeting with the Dean to assess what the fraternity did wrong the week before. We started off every meeting with the "damage report".
No fun getting a call bright and early on a Saturday morning with the news that "your guys" completely destroyed all the furniture in a dorm lobby the night before.
Fraternity definitely prepared me for future leadership roles. Made some great friends and count a couple as clients. Sure hate we are longer a chapter- given our nature it was just a matter of time I suppose. I had heard it was a lot more "liberal" in terms of what was allowed to happen on campus before I got there. I was there from 2005-2009. Things weren't too bad when I was there as long as you didn't get too crazy it was all good. There were a few Sundays some guys got called to the field house because we went too hard on Saturday night. All in all it was a great school and experience.

I was a Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKE) My son is a Kappa Sigma
My father, Uncle, grandfather, both great grandfathers were all Delta Kappa Epsilon (DKE). One of whom was a founding member of its alpha chapter.
All at Alabama.
To those who keep saying its about buying friends you are wrong. The money is not that bad in the scope of things. My sons house bill covers all his meals (which I don't have to buy through the University) and the food is outstanding. He also has numerous parties and other functions that the dues cover. If you live in the house the savings are even greater but he is in engineering and does not want the constant distractions of living there.
My pledge class was 37 men. I am in close contact with 17 of them and loose contact with the rest. They are my closest friends and many of them would be my first call if I had a problem. The people from high school (Central here in Tuscaloosa) I dont keep up with as much.
I love my country, but don't trust my government.

To those who keep saying its about buying friends you are wrong... Yep One of my best friends and a fraternity brother lost his wife yesterday. 10 of us are banding up to support him. If we had been 'bought friends' we wouldn't be bothering with him 30 years later

I reckon so! Was president of my chapter (AUM) and it definitely prepared me for later challenges. I hate that my the chapter fell apart. The nature of the college has changed from when I was in school. Most of us went to school full time and worked (some of us) part time which gave us plenty of time for social functions and the like. Most kids at that school now work full time and juggle an almost full time job so fraternity stuff gets squeezed out. Some of us alumni have talked about maybe getting the chapter reorganized but that's as far as it's gotten. For me, being in a fraternity was one of the best decisions I ever made. 30 years later I still talk to some of my brothers every week. Closest and best friends I've ever had. Some of my best times in my life included those guys. In fact, one came in as a patient yesterday. Oh, as as far as Huntingdon goes, those AO Pi's could freakin drink! When we had swaps with those chicks, we had to buy waaaaaay extra beer. Some of those girls could drink our guys under the table. Embarrassing but true. We called them A-O Pisces because they could drink like fish! Had I gone to HC I would have pledged Kappa Sigma. My dad was one at University of Georgia and my son pledged KS at Mississippi State. My family couldn't afford a fraternity, I was just lucky to afford tuition. But Ive always wondered, Is it true you frat boys had to pick up olives with your but crack to get in? Mine too. I went on the GI bill and paid my frat dues working full time while going to school full time. Picking up olives with my ass crack was easy after I left the Rangers. Actually, every thing was easy after that. Ranger, wow. Congrats on that! Thank you for serving our country!!! My knees are the only thing that made me go to college. LOL! I loved the Army.

Then them son of a guns ran it down and let the ATO's steal our house!
