I lurked on this thread to see if there were any other HC alumni in here. Good to see I'm not the only one. I played football so joining a fraternity wasn't an option due to time constraints. Had I gone to AU as planned before deciding to play ball, I would have tried to join. Any group of 18-21 year olds will have their fair share of idiots, but there are a lot of advantages of being in a fraternity. Most of the guys that went through it are doing pretty well for theirselves now which some is due to all the connections you make in something like that.

I was in a fraternity. It was well worth it to me.

id say so. I remembered the stats being staggering, so I looked it up. I would predict those percentages would be higher if not effected by other successful people who went military route.

85 percent of U.S. Supreme Court justices since 1910, 63 percent of all U.S. presidential cabinet members since 1900, and, historically, 76 percent of U.S. Senators, 85 percent of Fortune 500 executives. 69% of POTUS since creation of fraternities.

When I was in school and I assume still applies the joke was, SnortAboutEverything.

I believe now from the couple guys I knew in SAE, a lot of guys are from Mobile.

I'm from Mobile and was a recent SAE at Auburn. Was mostly the Atlanta guys that brought on the troubles. Heard they got kicked off campus last year.

Pointless to even try to argue when someone has preconceived notions. I went to Montevallo and do not know if I would have joined a fraternity at a large school. We were a bunch of "good ole boys" from cities like Clanton, Thorsby, Oneonta and Chickasaw. We excelled in the classroom and held many leadership positions on campus.

I will say this - coming out of High School and JUCU, I was very quiet and had never really spoken in public. One member said I had "leadership potential" and made sure that I got involved on campus. Would that have happened without the fraternity? I will never know. I do know that I became President of the fraternity, was held accountable academically, made some lifelong friends and met my wife, so I think it turned out ok and I never once thought of this as "buying" friends.
Thanks to those who have served our country.

Was nominated president & restarted a dormant fraternity at UA, can't even remember the name 'cause I quit after my freshman year ...

Didn't have time, money, nor the interest. I was married, with a mortgage, and working full time in the mines, going to school at night.

CeeHawk.....glad to see another HC Alumni on the Board. I was there from 1996-2000. I only stayed at HC because of the fraternity so it had a profound impact on my life. Fun school for first 3 years then admin change my senior year entailed me having a weekly meeting with the Dean to assess what the fraternity did wrong the week before. We started off every meeting with the "damage report".

No fun getting a call bright and early on a Saturday morning with the news that "your guys" completely destroyed all the furniture in a dorm lobby the night before.

Fraternity definitely prepared me for future leadership roles. Made some great friends and count a couple as clients. Sure hate we are longer a chapter- given our nature it was just a matter of time I suppose.
