I second this - I heard it as well.

Write your name and SSAN on each hand, arm, legs and feet. Make it easy for coroner when they start rounding up parts! grin

If you got a bang-stick - I'd just use it. End result for the shark is the same with either that or a pistol. Bang-stick much more effective with no risk of ricochet. IF it is really illegal to dispatch a shark - that you intend to KEEP - with a bang-stick, well then that is a law that was written by some douche-bag politician that probably doesn't know his a$$ from a hole-in-the-ground in the first place.

From FWC this morning:

"Good day Eugene,

You cannot use a bang stick or a pistol to harvest sharks in Florida state waters. They can be harvested by hook and line only.

Thanks,

I asked him if he had any suggestions for making toothy and energetic creatures into something I could tie to the side of the boat or throw in the cooler/fish bag. The FWC officer then asked me to call him to discuss. I called, left a message and have gotten no call back.

And the plot thickens. The guys on one of the local fishing forums want to film the landing and subduing of a sizeable legal shark using the blunt force technique.

Then send it to media outlets and explain exactly why you have to do that. They're hoping public opinion will get a policy change enacted.

I say be careful what you ask for, they may outlaw it all together.

If you tickle its belly, it will only bite you once! Of course once may take off a leg, depending on it's size. They are looking for keepers too. slap
THE FWC officer is probably going to suggest you write your name and SSAN on your extremities to make it easier for the coroner too.

Got checked by federal Wildlife officer today. Talk to him about it for a while. He said use a knife duct taped to a stick. We wore the blue crabs out. Hooked up with three sharks and landed none. One of them was 4 and 1/2 ft long and had a white Remora on it. Saw that one coming from 150 yards away. We were in a canal next to St Marks lighthouse
