Hadn't touched it in months. Shooting the 'curve this fine, foggy a.m. One last arrow... (Wish they'd all looked this good; some of 'em weren't even good pattern with improved cylinder )

Youre a little low and to the right on the red but keep practicing and work on your form. Kidding!

What kind of bow are you shooting?

El cheapo. Samick Polaris. I shoulda bought the Sage. I like this little bow but it's 39 lbs. I'd like to shoot 45. The limbs are interchangeable but I dunno if the Polaris riser would hold up to the stronger limbs.

I really need to get my old recurve checked, a new string and get to shooting. I've said that for years and just haven't. But I think I'd really enjoy it.
Nice shooting, AC!

I'll probably try some 45 limbs at some point. 39 shoots sweet. I just worry a bit about penetration. When I first started shooting recurves I couldn't pull a lot of poundage.

When I was a teenager we shot several deer with 40lb bows..B50 strings. Blew right through em. Sharp broadhead and shot placement

I prefer a higher poundage myself but it isn't necessary. I actually had to drop a few years back. My older Black Widow had 70# limbs that I could pull back fine but they started hurting my shoulder. I ordered 55# limbs and have used those fine and my shoulder doesn't bother me anymore. I would add to the sharp heads and placement and say heavy sharp heads and heavy arrows. It isn't completely necessary but I prefer heavy. I like 10 grains per # of draw weight so at 39# you would be around 400. Like I said, it isn't completely necessary as you can shoot less, my heavier arrows are just quieter and more forgiving...and weight and FOC equal good penetration. Just my 2 cents.

i got my old bear 45-pounder out the other day and nailed a "grass heart" at 15 yards. it had been a year or more. can't find 2117 fletched aluminum arrows any more, so i've been shooting fletched carbon blackout x3 hunter 400s. i get a little porpoising with 125-grain field points, so i'm thinking i need 150s or better on broadheads. what do you think, recurve? my arrows are full length. years ago, i drew three times on three different deer at less than 15 yards (one was less than 10 FEET after a stalk through planted pines in the rain), and could not let go of the string. i've killed deer with a rifle at such ranges. i haven't bowhunted deer since then. i have GOT to get past that before i die. i'm 66 ...

You need a .600 deflection with that old 45 Bear. Start full length and cut a little at a time to tune.

ok, i'm at full length. what increments? 1/4 or 1/2 inch? i'd like to shoot a 150-160 gr broadhead rather than 125, BUT 125s such as muzzy are available in local stores. i do favor traditional broadheads ...
