I guess this is a what would yall do kind of question. I put up a trail cam 2 weeks ago on some public land close to the house. Not much access to this property. I use to hunt this property as a kid but havent been on it for about 15 years. I went to pull the cam yesterday, it was on a old salt lick that has been there as long as I can remember. When I get to the cam it was not on the tree like I left it. I went to unlock the lock and none of my keys would open it. So I make trip back to the house and got some bolt cutters. When I opened the cam it was off and all the pics were deleted. Best I can tell they cut the lock and looked at the pics and deleted them somehow. And then put another lock on it.
Most people think when you delete pics off a SD card that there gone. Well that isnt the case. A buddy of mine is sharp with this kind of stuff and he got back all the pics on the card. I went thru the pics and had pics of the SOB. I know him well. I called him and ask if he has came across any cams in the woods this year. Of course he said no, that he was disabled and wasnt able to get around in the mountain much any more. I keep my cool and didnt tell him I had the sd pics restored. Just trying to figure out what to do about it without going to jail. LOL.........

LOL......In my younger days I would have, but the older I get the more I get a kick out of how stupid some people are.

It's on public land. You're lucky it wasn't stolen. Sounds like you should move your camera. Or at least hide it better.

print one of the pics of him and mail it to him, no return addy. See if he calls to see if you sent it.

Post the picture of him up to see if we know him....

I'd post it everywhere, along with an account of the circumstances surrounding how you came by it...since it wasn't him, I'd be sure to show him a pic and ask if he knew who it was...

Hell yeah! And a salt lick that's been on public land as long as you can remember is also known by everyone else I don't care how hard you think it is to get to. Move the camera. Why the heck would he leave it and change the lock? He was just gonna start using your camera has his own?

This will take some detective work and may not be possible or easy.
print picture of him from trail cam.
Address and stamp envelope to his disability case worker.
Take picture of picture half in and out of envelope with address and case worker name legible.
Take picture of envelope held just outside mail drop box opening.
Send pictures to him with invitation to stay out of your woods from now on.

What an insidious thing to do. I wish I had thought of it.

Some of you guys are damn geniuses.

You know they make the trip wire style paint bombs that you can rig those up around the cam. Put extra cams in the trees to catch all the action and share with us Please

I like the idea of printing off a pic of him and mailing it to him with a not to the tune of "you are a lying sonofabitch. have a nice day." The disability case worker angle is pretty cool.
