This time of year everyone is out doing preparations for upcoming season. Especially hanging stands, make sure u wear your safety harness. . NO EXCUSES. We all got to make it home to our family. Take some of the worry from your family by wear them every time. Stay attached to tree as soon as your feet leave the ground until they hit ground. I am tired of hear out guys who don't wear them, to me it is being selfish on your part and putting a burden on your family. Give them a piece of mind and wear them everytime. God Bless and stay safe. Hurry up opening day!!

Check out the Hunter Safety System. They have everything you need, even a utility harness, just for hanging stands.

And don't hang loc ons without a linemans belt. It's insane to try and hold on with one hand and try to attach the stand with only one hand. Safety first! Hunt Safe! So you can go home and hunt again.

Life is too short to only hunt and fish on weekends!

I now have life lines on all my stands. Got a good deal on line for them.

Make sure your safety line isn't too long.

If you are using a foot climber in such a way that your feet can be trapped if the seat turns loose, change your foot climber to one with a break away system.

Carry a whistle, and cell phone, and a couple of screw in steps in a zippered pocket or pack on your body. You can screw a step in and relieve pressure that might save your life.

All good advice right here. I wear a whistle on a lanyard attached to my shirt pocket and keep a screw in step in the pocket of my harness.

It wouldn't hurt for your keys and light to be in a zippered pocket or pouch either. When I was left hanging upside down I lost both. When I finally did get down. I was left crawling around feeling the ground in a brier patch for my light. When I finally did find the light,it still took a long time to find my keys.

I use to work at an inpatient hospital, and I got a few patients every year that fell put of a tree and either couldnt walk anymore, or had a tpugh road ahead of them. Be safe.

Where was it last year that ran the sale on lifelines for like $20 each? Was it Muddy? I bought some and love them. They are highly reflective when you hit them with a flashlight. Somebody posted a link last year.

I have two brand new harnesses that came with ladder stands. I will gladly give away. Pay to ship. PM me if you are interested.

I have stopped hanging my lock-ons by myself, even though I always wear my harness with linemans rope. If I can't get someone to go with me the stands just wait. Not only is it a big safety factor to have someone there just in case, it makes hanging them safer by not having to climb up and down to get the sticks and stand.

Funny how I look back at all those years spent in a homemade Baker stand, hugging the tree to climb, sitting on a stool once up. Scares me just thinking about it! slap

Even with those hang on stands or ladder stands you guys need one of those safety ropes with prusick knot attached that hangs to the ground. Then you attach your harness and slide the safety line up as you climb.

No deer is worth your mobility and the life changing problems you might cause for your loved ones if you get injured.
Several on here have fallen and had a miracle, allowing them to hunt another day. They'll tell you in no uncertain terms to wear it every time.
Y'all be safe!

Had a bud that passed out in the heat in a ladder stand during early bow last year. He'll be in a nursing home the rest of his life.....

Here's my story. There is just no good excuse in this day and age to not be connected from the moment you leave the ground until you return. If you can't afford the right equipment you definitely can't afford to fall.

"The kill is the satisfying, indeed essential, conclusion to a successful hunt. But, I take no pleasure in the act itself. One does not hunt in order to kill, but kills in order to have hunted. - Finn Aagard

Thanks for sharing TooTall. I remember as a teenager and young man I never wore any type of harness. I thank the Lord I never fell. Now I never leave the ground without being connected to the tree. It can happen so fast.
