For the money I haven't found a more accurate rifle. Shot a 1" group at 420 yards Saturday with factory ammoin .257. I'm eventually going to put a bell and Carlson stock on it.

I've got 2 Vanguards. One is a 1978 Deluxe in .270WBY and the other is a '03 Stainless/Synthetic in .257WBY and both of them will shoot significantly better than my capabilities. I won't put the Deluxe in a lead sled but we've strapped the .257 down and it will shoot ragged one hole groups @ 100yds with 115gr BarnesX and Nosler BT

I must be confused I thought the only thing that shot good at that price had Tikka written on the side of it.

Not every vanguard is a one hole shooter,Not every Tikka is a one hole shooter. lots of good factory guns and lots of mediocre ones. The ones that tend to have more good than mediocre tend to rise to the top. Just make your pick and take your chances.

They will never win a beauty contest but they are typically very accurate.

I have had one or two that were picky. I don't consider them any better than the other. I must be confused I thought the only thing that shot good at that price had Tikka written on the side of it.

I have a Vanguard in .243 and it is a very good shooter. One of, if not the, most accurate rifle I have.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

There are guys that spend $3k plus on rifles they are trying to get to shoot groups half that good.
I like a slick , custom build as much as the next guy but it isn't necessary if accuracy is your main concern.

If the rifle actually shot more than 2 rounds in a 1" group than I wouldn't touch the action screws. Re-torquing those screws may give you a more than adequate 5" group @420yd.

Yea, I think I'd set it in the corner till deer season.
For a hunting rifle I'm more of a utilitarian kinda guy myself. I like lever guns and things like Ruger 44 Carbines, Winchester 100's and 88's that kinda thing. Never really thought I needed a precision rifle to kill a deer I've kilt a pile of them with one of those little single shot Contender carbines. No that it is any slouch in accuracy department but that isn't some kinda fancy piece.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Can you show a picture of your 400 yard 1 inch group, you should be shooting competition with that gun. No way I'd ever sell it. Also was this a 1, 3, 5 shot group.

Ran out of bullets. LOL. I thought about taking a pic but I didn't. I had a witness though. I just folded the target up and threw it away. None of this was with any moa adjustment. Just my Steiner s-1 reticle holding over on hash marks.
