Work really starts once you have an elk on the ground. Until then you are just hiking.

If y'all kill one, make sure to age it at least 10 days before processing and freezing.

Yesterday was our first day of hunting. JONO23 saw a cow and got inducted into mountain goat hunting training class. I saw 575 duzen mule deer, but not one stinking elk seen or heard ( except on private land from the truck at dark). This morning was more of the same for JONO23 and I practiced my stalking skills on 2 bears that were feeding on a bull elk carcass. I got 100 yards from them before the wind swirled. One of them seemed huge to me, and he dropped a big deuce to prove it. At lunchtime JONO23 got into some elk and then we both got into them thick!
