Been trompin through the woods on my land trying to get stands up, houses cleaned out, new locations, cuttin roads, the norm. Took off first thing in the morning around 6:30am got about 10 min away and realized I left the bug spray in my truck. Came back to see this joker sneakin across my drive way. Stopped the 4 wheeler, walked up to him with pistol out, he coiled up and never rattled once, NOT ONCE !!!! Gives me the willies knowing we got these things out there. This joker was big around as my forearm. Thats a large lid from waffle house beside him for reference. 2nd one I've killed in 10 years, biggest one I've ever seen. Be careful out there guys, they out there. Not sure what kind of damage one of these jokers could do to you but I sure as crap dont want to find out. I'd probably die right there on the spot, HATE SNAKES !
Ain't nothing a sharp knife can't fix

I killed the fattest rattlesnake I've ever seen this past Friday. They are definitely moving around a lot right now

It was crossing your driveway. Just think of where it was when you were out there the first time getting ready and poking around.
After seeing a couple last summer on a nearby public trail they and copperheads definitely are masters of disguise. One rattler was crossing a trail where probably 7-8 of our crew had just jogged past before 3-4 of us got there and it was easing across. None of the first group ever saw it. The second one our crew saw was coiled maybe 5-6 inches off the trail and about the size of a salad plate. Amazing camo.
The second one really bothered me because a lot of parents and kids go on those trails here - the Blevins Gap Huntsville Land Trust trails on Cecil Ashburn Drive. Our trail running crew saw at least seven or eight last summer out there. Lot of them on trails in Monte Sano State Park, too.

I'm guessing those crocs are what kilt that critter.
Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

I actually stepped directly on one yesterday morning. He was coiled up and he never moved or rattled or tried to bite me.Was kinda weird.Don't know if the slightly cooler temp's had anything to do with it.Sure was glad I had my snake boots on though.

Medium sized at best. Came across two at work in the past month way bigger than that.

I did some walking in the woods this morning (with snake chaps of course) but sometimes in some areas it's almost like I know that ground demon is there and looking at me and I just haven't spotted him yet. Erie feeling. No one there to tap your leg with a stick?

CUT IT'S HEAD OFF! True story: My brother killed one and cut it's head off. Put the rest of the snake in a bag in his SUV back floorboard. When he arrived at home a couple hours later, that thing had crawled, while in the bag, up under the seat and into the front floorboard next to him. Repeat: CUT IT'S HEAD OFF! I cut one's head off one time and went to the truck to get my camera. I came back and picked it up to move it to the road so I could take a good picture out of the leaves. I just grabbed it about mid body since it had no head. That joker turned and struck me twice on the arm with the bloody stub before I could throw it down. Talk about the HeeBeeGeeBeezeez!

He didnt rattle because he wasn't going to bite you. You could have just left him alone to perform his valuable role in the ecosystem. I don't understand the irrational fear of snakes. Big spiders, on the other hand, goodgooglymoogly! I hate big spiders. Kill em all!
