The last few years we've planted soybeans in the summer and wheat/clover/etc. in the fall. Our fall plots have been really really thick partly due to overseeding and stuff simply volunteering from where the plants went to seed the year before. Anyways, we were really late this year and didn't get soybeans in the ground until the first part of August. Now I've got everything under the sun coming up with with my soybeans (I added the sunflowers as a different test), which isn't a bad thing at the moment. If the soybeans make I plan to just broadcast fall seeds into the standing beans. My question is, should I spray and kill off the wheat/clover/rape etc. beforehand? I wonder if I should push toward not having it too thick so that maybe what I plant this fall will have good space to thrive (if that makes any sense).

Most years I don't think the wheat, clover and rape would have made it until August.

I would do as you say over seed into it without getting to it to heavy.

If your beans don't make lightly disc?

If it stays cool, all that MAY stay palatable into late season, and ammonium nitrate could help give it a boost in December if it turns brown. There still plenty of space on the floor of that growth for sunlight. If I were you, I'm overseeding come early October before a rain, so that you're guaranteed to have palatable growth come January.

Thanks. It's getting absolutely hammered right now. I'll post a video when I get home of 3 huge bucks I walked up on in that field yesterday evening.

I'd let it grow. Top sow in a month before a big rain. Maybe light disking then. Looks good.
