I have been offered a good deal on a complete RCBS setup, various dies, powders and accessories. I reloaded rifle and pistol way back in the day. I know that it is cheaper to buy most ammo now, but my main goal would be loading hunting ammo for myself and my son and loading subsonic in the future when I get a can. I hate when I find a load that shoots well and then it is discontinued.

Any pros or cons in starting back I need to consider other than availability of components?

It will be expensive to get all the components up front however will save you money in the long run. As long as you remember this it wont hurt as bad. Good luck.

Only accurate rifles are interesting.

It's not all about saving money. I like being able to shoot what I want when I want regardless of what's available at the store.

For me, loading my own is 95% about not having to depend on any store to have my ammo. And with enough components stored up, I'll never have to worry about the government taxing ammo out of affordability.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Thanks guys, I had some time to look around the net and it seems like components are readily available again. I have to let him know Monday if I am going to buy it all, he is selling equipment and what components he has.

I got into it to be able to shoot the bullets I want and custom tailor the load to my rifle. It's only about accuracy with the right bullets for me.

RH, that's the main reason I'm even considering it. I want to be able to load my hunting ammo they way I want it and not have to depend on ammo companies. There are also a set of pistol dies in the deal but I don't shoot my pistol a lot and have a pretty good stock of 9mm.

True dat Mr. Clark. I now have loads worked up for my 308 & 30:06 that I can't buy in any store and make my rifles that much more effective.

That's how I felt when I got started. I couldn't find a 165 gr any where so took the plunge.

That's the main reason I am getting back into it. I went through most of it last night and will be looking to sale or trade some dies and bullets. I haven't decided yet if I am going to keep all the 9mm stuff. I don't shoot my pistol a lot and have a pretty good stock of ammo for it.

I like being able to shoot any bullet I want in about any caliber, plus the accuracy factor.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Exact reason I do it. To find that load my rifle loves using the bullet I want to shoot. Is it cheaper per trigger pull? Sure it is. Problem is I pull the trigger a lot more than I used to.
