I'm about to start loading for 300WM. What are some good components to start with for this caliber? I have almost zero experience loading magnum cartridges.

Thanks for the help!

Federal 215 magnum primers
H1000, Retumbo are the most popular powders. I use IMR 4831 and it works well.
Take a pic on brass.

edit for brain fart on primer

Only accurate rifles are interesting.

Federal 215 primers (if you can find any) or CCI 250 primers

H4831, R22, H1000, H4350 are good powders to try.

180 - 200 grain bullets.

Be careful you don't push the shoulders back too much when resizing or you may have case head cracking or separation. This is the biggest cause of problems when reloading belted magnums.

Yep. Set your sizer so it headspaces off of the shoulder rather than the belt.

Well, I picked up my gun today. It's a TC Compass. I topped it with the only decent scope I had in the safe, a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40. I'm ready to shoot this thing and work up a load.

Will CCI LR magnum primers be ok? Nobody mentioned them. Nevermind, just saw CCI 250's mentioned

I have some of the powders mentioned on hand.

H1000 is a very consistent powder for 300wm, also R22 and magpro.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Notice how 4350 is the fastest burner mentioned? Stick with slowburners for sucess with Wins 300.The 180s&220s are underrated performers no they arent the fastest flyers but they make things stop Right now.

Only hits count.

The 180s and 200s is where the 300wm shines it's best with. H1000 performs excellent with these.

I use 71 grains of IMR 4350 in my 24" barrel 300 WM for 3070 FPS with a 180 Sierra GK. 4350 is a great all around powder and plenty of speed.

Use H4831SC in my 26" barrel 300 WM with a 190 gr Berger for 3050 FPS

Good info. I appreciate it. I was hoping to shoot the gun some today before the rain started. I didn't make it. Maybe tomorrow

My Win 300 WM liked IMR 4350 and IMR 4831. Speer 180 grn HotCors over both.

IMR 4350 with 180 grain TTSXs or 200 grain Partitions are my favorites

I'm seeing a pattern emerge here...

Think I'll get some 200gr and put some 4350 under them

Does anybody load 7-08 with IMR4350 and if so how are the results?

When I had a 7-08, I was using imr 4064 and re15, 4350 is going to be slow in the medium case. May work fine but your not going to get full potential before you start seeing pressure signs.
