It's been pretty nice in Cullman this past week. Big time drop in humidity and staying in the 80's

I quit watching them this early. Just breaks my heart. Only thing that matter where I'm at is when the corn and beans are cut by the neighbors. I just can't compete. Last year we had several hundred and then the neighbor cut 160 acres of corn over a four day period the Tuesday before opening day. Made me want to cry like a baby.

3 years ago our season started on Monday, Labor Day, in Mississippi. Another forum member here and myself watched well over 100 birds, probably closer to 200, up until sundown on Sunday afternoon. Literally, like 10 hours before the sunrise of opening day.

I think we killed 5 birds between 4 guns total the next day.

I simply couldn't explain it. Hope I'm not setting myself up for the same fate this year.

I learned to tell folks that ask me if we have any birds that the answer is no, not many. Regardless of what I saw the day before.

Good response is the beer will be guaranteed to be cold and the fellowship will be good.

Yep. "We don't have many" is always the right answer. I work, for free, all year to prepare a dove field and some jackleg comes expecting Argentina? Sorry to disappoint......not

I laughed reading these because I've had the exact same experiences! It's amazing to me when someone you invite to come hunt your field for free has the balls to complain about stuff! And I'm talking about some really good shoots where every hunter in the field limits out and you still get complaining!

I had a gazillion today out of nowhere. I've got plenty food for em but I've been burned just like y'all are talking. They all hit the field at once right at 6 pm, fed for 15-20 minutes and off they go. Kind of odd.

Sure 'nuff cool front coming end of next week. Might be the coolest opening day I remember if temps hold as forecast...but they never do.

I think summer is officially over.

I remember it dropping in the upper 50's one time the night before the opener. We went from about 250 to around 75 in less than 24 hours. Nothing scares me worse than a cold front!
