Got a question for you football guru's/ex or even active officials. Saw a play this past w/end where there was a personal foul/face mask call on a qb sack. The ref stepped the 15 yards off from the spot of the foul...6 yards deep in backfield. Was the markoff not supposed to go from the previous line of scrimmage? Thanks in advance.

No, play was 4th and 6 from about the 40-42 yard line. penalty occured inside the 35 and they spotted the ball around the 49? Didn't seem like the defense was penalized except the offense got to keep the ball (since he was sacked on 4th down).
