Looking to experiment with these in some plots this season. What are your stories on them? Should they be planted early September when planting brassicas? What is your recommendation on seed & fertilizer per acre? Thanks in advance!

I'm still not convinced they're better than regular Coker Oats, and they cost a good but more. Me either unless it gets really, really cold for several days in a row. I've been using them several years up here in Hillbilly land with good success.

I've not seen them at my local seed stores or co-ops. Let me know where yall find them in the northern half of AL (say around I20 & north). Riverside feed and seed in Northport. I bought em last year because they didn't have their regular Oats in yet.

BFO have out performed any other oats I have planted. I have tried Bobs Oats and Coker oats. I usually do a blend of wheat and oats and top dress dwarf essex rape and some type of white clover.
300lbs of 13-13-13 per acre, then hit it AN around Christmas at 100lbs per acre to get you through the end of February.

I too have done a side by side comparison and deer will definitely go to the BFO 1st. If you have a very high deer density keep in mind that they grow slower than most oats so that is the only drawback. Those who aren't convinced most likely have never done a side by side study or your deer density is so high they are going to mow down everything you plant no matter what it is...
