Looks good! How big are the fields, Mike? This field is approximately 1.5 acres. It looks much bigger than it actually is. I could plant much more but my best friend might get ill with me. It's his land and he gave up 1.5 acres of dirt for me to plant some chufa. He cares nothing about turkey hunting and likes all his available dirt to be planted in pine goat food.

Those are beautiful chufas, and a great illustration of the fact that it's better to plant them in rows if you have the equipment. You are gonna make a whole bunch of chufas there and I don't think you need more than 1.5 acres. The few weeds that are there won't hurt anything at this point.

I killed my very first turkey around that peanut field.

Anyone ever planted using a covington. If so what plate did you use? I got an old two row I plan corn with that I would like to try.

"I just used the corn plates on the 1970 something two row we used"
Did it plant them thick enough? I may try it next year, so I can weed control better

What did you spray with prior to planting and what did you spray after it was growing? Thank you in advance for any tips. I used 2% solution of gly and 2-4d to burn down prior to planting. Once chufa were established and I started having weed issues, I sprayed with 10 oz of Clethodim and 2 ounces of Milestone. I added 16 ounces of non-ionic surfactant to this mix. I used a 25 gallon atv sprayer with 10' boom.

Anyone ever planted using a covington. If so what plate did you use? I got an old two row I plan corn with that I would like to try. My planter is a plate less planter. I used the bean cups to plant this chufa plot. I'm not sure what plates are available for a Covington planter. If they offer a large soybean plate or peanut plate I'd look into those. A large corn plate might also work. The best advice I was given about a plate type planter is get your chufa seed in hand and check which plate the seed fits the best. I bought two types of chufa. One bag I got from the co-op and those chufas were all sizes/shapes. This bag was also full of rocks which seed cups don't like by the way. The NWTF chufa are more consistent on size and free of rocks. I'll use that seed moving forward when planting with a planter. By the way this plot is the co-op seed I bought that I spent hours going through by hand picking the rocks out of the seed before putting them in my planter. I want do that again unless I have no other option.
