I see he got flagged for spearing Jay Cutler into the ground. Imagine that. I wonder if a fine is coming?

That was a crazy game. There will be lots of fines including one on Stafford and half of both teams I imagine after that bench clearing brawl.

I believe Detroit leads the league in roughing penalties.

Bench clearing brawls seem to follow Fairley.

You know, I hope that I'd be a good of enough person not to laugh if someone drove his helmet straight into Fairley's knee someday and ended his career.

It looked like a good tackle to me. It is hard to tackle a QB clean these days it seems.

initial contact wasn't late. it's his punk way of driving the qb into the turf with the intent to hurt or injure after he's let go of the ball.

NFL players have done that for years and still do.

Fairly just got a head-start in college.

The way El Toro speared his own team mate's knee in the Georgia game there may be something going on......How bad was Bell's knee damaged?

Yep, it sucks because I could have sworn football was a contact sport and wasn't for wussies. Heck you can't tackle or block anybody cause somebody might think you are trying to hurt them for crying out loud.

They may as well play fag, excuse me, flag football.

Ohhhh, who was the bama player a few weeks ago that took the cheap shot in the endzone? I like fairley more because of the grief he causes the crimson glass wearers. If you don't want him to break your qb .....block him.

Someone will, right in the knee. Folks in the NFL don't take kindly to cheap shots that could end a career when they are making millions. I give it a few more weeks.

I haven't seen it. How about a link to the cheap shot. If its just more crying about legal albeit violent tackles on the qb you can save it.

Since the first post in the thread stated that he got flagged for it, I'm guessing it's not "just just more crying about legal albeit violent tackles on the qb".

If ANY other team had a player doing what Fairley was doing last year and apparently continuing to do in his rookie season, Auburn fans would have had a fit...especially with all the armchair referees over on ITAT. They never miss a holding call on the "other" team.

Yeah hunterbuck, you are a well qualified impartial judge on all things AU. Forgive me if I seem dismissive of everything you say but your hate and ignorance have earned it.

Yep...cheapest of the cheap shots. What did he take....4 steps after Cutler had released the ball only to leave his feet in a attempt to drive his helmet into Cutler's jaw? That's definitely the Nick Fairley we've all come to know.

It has nothing to do with people not blocking him or what team someone pulls for. It is about the way he intentionally puts his full weight on the quarterback when he is driving him into the ground. Why not just wrap up the quarterback and tackle the qb the way the other 99% of good lineman do? Your argument is ridiculous.

I can't pull the link up but if he hit him that late then its a cheap shot. Tc, its legal to tackle that way and football is a physical contact sport. If you don't like it there is always figure skating. You bammers are gonna be worried about AU players until they are drawing SS.

It has nothing to do with what college he played for. I get sick of watching Suh and his antics and he went to Nebraska. YOU'RE the one making this a Bama-Auburn thing. You are the kind of person that would argue with a brick wall.

Let's see Fairley was in the act of shedding a blocker, had his hands on Cutler, Fairley continues playing football, Cutler throws the ball while Fairley is in the process of tackling Cutler and takes him to the ground. Sounds like football to me. Damn, what am I thinking, you are supposed to stop playing football when the QB wants you instead of when the whistle blows to stop the play. Yep, Cutler is an overpaid WUSS. Good thing Cutler chose Professional touchy feely sports and didn't take up boxing or the UFC where you are supposed to protect yourself at all times until the referee stops the action.

The Lions play the Panthers this Sunday. Maybe Fairley can do that to Cam 3 or 4 times and we'll see the inner struggle with the Auburn fans' conscience.

No struggle here. I don't cry like a girl when I watch football players do what they do. If he can put that kind of hit on cam then so be it.

No way Fairley or Cam cheap shot one another. Good hard football yes, but I would dare to say Fairley would not drive Cam into the ground. They were teammates and I am sure good friends. Besides, I think Cam could kick his fat ass unlike 90% of the other QB's in the NFL.

Fairly never got a shot at Newton at Aubrun.

You don't think he'd pile-drive his ass in Charlotte if he gets the opportunity? Think he'd tell Suh "Hey, that's my boy ... don't hit him too hard."

They play to win. Newton had an MRI late last week and is dinged up. If they think they can put him out and have a shot at winning, that's what they do in the NFL.

Newton knows that, too.

Hell, they don't need to knock Newton out to win the game. They continue to loose despite Cam playing well.

Im not sure how football is taught in Shelby county, that my friend is called a form tackle and is the first thing taught to a football player in south Alabama. He should have let the QB go and had oppurtunity to, being critical of this if fair, that tackle, as anyone who has ever played football knows, is a form tackle and considered to be the standard.

Yeah, but we're talking about the nfl. I saw a foul called on a db the other day cause he hit a receiver while he was in the air catching the ball. Said he was defenseless...he shouldn't have jumped in my opinion. Didn't use his head, tackled him with his shoulder. Couldn't figure it out...was told in hs 1)intercept ball 2)knock it down 3)punish the receiver. Follow the benjamins, the nfl has gotten too pricey and they can't afford to play ball like it used to be.

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

Perfect execution of a good clean form tackle. I used to do it to folks and had folks do it to me. Just part of the game. I bet some of you boys pee sitting down. Geesh.....

That is kind of like this play from the Florida State vs. Miami Game from this past weekend. The LB led with his shoulder and hit the WR in the chest but he got ejected for an "illegal" hit. It's not just in the NFL.

Sad when you get ejected for what it looked like. The guy that got ejected did not even leave his feet or get knocked down. When the reciever is in the air he can be spun every which way aesily because he is not on solid ground. Bad call and bad ejection decision!! This also may be a bad designed play on the coaches part, if you don't want your players to get hit going high over the middle don't call a play that requires high over the middle!!

I got a $100 that says if Fairley had played for Bama all you Barners would be screaming bloody murder over his college and pro tactics. What makes Fairley a punk is he never misses an opportunity to take a cheap shot. I don't remember anyone on either side talking about Quentin Groves, Takeo Spikes, or any of the other great Auburn defensive players being cheap shot punks and they dominated as much as anyone.

I forgot Ziemba was a chop block specialist but he was on offense.

Wrong. Find anywhere I have ever posted anything derogatory about any player for bama. You don't think there have been opportunities? Fairley plays within the rules from what I've seen but he is violent and that pisses bammers off because he played at AU.

Ok, I'll bite. What Bama player in the last couple years had what could be argued as a pattern of cheap shots? Or should we define cheap shot vs. violent first.

Are you calling the way he tackles a cheap shot like the rest of your wuss bammers? If not then show me the penalties he hadn't accrued for those cheap shots. I seem to remember when the bama player, now in the nfl ,got the penalty for the cheap shot in the end zone all the bammers were saying it was no big deal since he got a penalty that was punishment enough.

What Bama player? Never said all of Fairleys tackles are cheap shots. I said he doesn't seem to miss an opportunity for a cheap shot if it's available.

I think Suh takes cheap shots. I would say the same thing about Fairley if he played at Hellen Keller for the Deaf and Blind. I poke at the AU fans because ya'll are the only one's I hear taking up for him.

I seem to remember one of the Auburn guys here whining about Upshaw's perfectly legal hit on UF's Brantley as being dirty. If I remember correctly, he was trying to claim in some twisted way that it was a horsecollar. I also know a lot of Auburn fans that STILL claim that Dareus' perfectly legal hit on Colt McCoy was dirty.

Sooo, there should be plenty of evidence to post. Post these cheap shots you are talking about.

I don't know the bama players name. He leveled a guy in the endzone after a td.

Two perfect examples of dirty play by Fairley...do Auburn fans still call these plays just plain "hard nose tackle football"?...

Watch what Fairley does to LaMichael James at the end:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI4-RjMpD6Q

And, no Gary Danielson, their face masks weren't "stuck" on this play. Fairley was intentionally trying to get his facemask under Murray's to injure him...

3 toe two of those are of the same play and the one where his helmet hit the knee is debatable. What I see is a guy with a nasty disposition who gets a little carried away but I don't believe they are meant to be career ending shots. Grinding his facemask may be overboard but in the heat of battle it happens. As much as you think AU fans are apologist for him it looks like bama fans are overreacting and reaching.

It happens sporadically in battle, but when it's the same guy over and over and over again, it's not just a coincidence.

I can agree with you on this point. I am still undecided on the career ending part.

The 4 I posted are not the same. Hit in the back, knee shot, facemask rub and pushing the facemask in the ground. Hunterbuck posted a repeat on one I posted. I will give you the knee shot was probably incidental.

3 of the 4 are from the GA game. I think we could agree Fairley got carried away with himself in that game.

Fairley is a hell of a defensively lineman. I think if given time he could be one of the best in the NFL. But if doesn't reel in some of that "carried away" I think it will cost him.

How did this become a Alabama discussion?

Its always about mean ole Bammer.

Fairley is getting paid big time money to play professional sports. I don't give a rats rear end how he plays as long as it is entertaining. He and the other players know what they signed up for.

Heck if it was up to me, I'd give em all knives and up the entertainment value a brazillion percent!

Lets see. We have a thread started by a bammer bashing an AU player but you choose to point the finger at me for interjecting bama and pointing out the double standard. But your above all the rest of us and are a fan of both schools, right? You show your true colors once again and wonder why so many on both sides think your an insecure
Prick.

Yep, Cutler is an overpaid WUSS. Good thing Cutler chose Professional touchy feely sports and didn't take up boxing or the UFC where you are supposed to protect yourself at all times until the referee stops the action.

Look, I love good hard nosed football like anyone else, but this is football and not a anything goes fight to the death steel cage match.

Fairley squared up Cutler after he had dumped the ball off drove him towards the back of the end zone until he could wrap him up behind his knees, and then drove him into the turf and ground his helmet into the guy as he buried him. The body slam occurred after the pass was incomplete and the whistle blew. The ref was right there and threw the yellow hanky.

I think Fairley is a great player, but I also think he has problems controlling himself after the whistle blows. There have been players in the past that had the same problems Haynesworth, Romanowski, etc. Romanowski was a great football player, but he's more known for cheap shots and spitting in peoples faces. That's the road Fairley is on, and has been since college.

Y'all think we are picking on Fairley because he played at Auburn, but there have been hundreds of D Linemen through Auburn that weren't labeled dirty.

There is a vast difference between good hard nosed football and dirty play. Look at the yellow hankies he has gotten over the past two years.

Let me ask you a question Fun4all,

If Fairley came in and speared Cutler right in the knees and broke both his legs, would Cutler still be a pussy by your logic?

In the NFL, dirty players get taken care of. If Fairley, is taking cheap, dirty shots,he will pay the price eventually.

Does Cutler run down field at a full sprint and hit another player head on trying to block or tackle on a punt or kick off return? Or, does he run a route across the middle of the field jumping up in the air trying to catch a pass that was thrown too high by a QB? There are numerous other players on the field that are not paid nearly as much as he is that know everytime they walk onto that field could be their last and they CHOOSE to do it knowing what might could happen. So to answer your question if Cutler does not think that he should take responsiblity for HIS decision to play a contact sport and that everybody on the field should protect him and that he should not have to play until the end of the play then I say yes he is a WUSS!

Try again. Fairley plays for the Detroit Lions.

Is it possible that 3toe's post had nothing to do with AU/AL or does EVERYTHING doesn't revolve around the rivalry in your little world?

Insecure prick? There you go again, always reverting to the name calling. Classic "bill backed into a corner".

Prick is one of bamachems favorite words and I figured if a mod used it it was ok.

Your always turning a blind eye to bama fans attacks but calling out every AU fan. But you're better than us all and in your words your proud of it. You should just be truthful and admit what is obvious but the bammers don't want you either .

I never claimed to be a fan of both teams and if iuyou were your impunity would go both ways.

In case you haven't seen me post it 284 times, I am an Alabama fan first, then an Auburn fan. I want Auburn to win every game till the IB. Not a hater. Its really not that difficult of a concept to grasp...for most.

I'd say it's not only difficult for me to grasp, it's impossible to grasp.

It would be as wishy-washy as someone wanting Germany to win every single battle against the allies in WWII except the last big decisive one to the U.S.

I'm not surprised, but there's the problem. Football isn't as important as bringing an end to systematic genocide.

Folks take this rivalry way too seriously.

Probably the dumbest thing ever posted on this board. And that's saying a lot.

It is stupid to compare any sporting event to war...no matter who does it! Yes...that includes Saban...figured I'd get that out of the way. smile

This thread needed to be deleted until Clem rescued it with the Belushi quote.

I've known some people who were pretty closed minded about football teams, their fans and other fans, as referenced a few posts above. I've taken it upon myself to "un-know" those folks.

Pretty warped way of thinking.

Like I said, football has rules and is not a steel cage death match. Cutler knows the risk of getting hit everytime he takes the field. However the hitter has to know his boundries and play within those rules. It's not everything goes on the football field.

I take solace in the fact that rational people and the refs agree with me.
